Licensing Requirements

The IPv6 packet capturing function is controlled by a license. By default, this function is disabled on newly purchased CE12800 and CE12800E series switches. To use the IPv6 packet capturing function, apply for and purchase the license from the equipment supplier.

Feature Limitations

Restriction of capturing Forwarded Packets
  • The device can capture the forwarded packets only in the ingress, but not egress. Only one packet capture instance is supported in the ingress of an interface.

  • The device cannot capture packets on stack ports or physical ports of stack members.

  • The device can capture packets only on Eth-Trunks, but not on member interfaces of an Eth-Trunk.

  • When the device captures EVN/IPv4 VXLAN packets on EA series and EC series (at the rate of GE) cards, the device will remove the 16-byte headers from the packets. For other series of cards, the device will remove the 16-byte headers from the packets only when the card interoperability mode is set to non-enhanced mode using the undo set forward capability enhanced command and the NVO3 service extension function is disabled using the undo assign forward nvo3 service extend enable command.

  • For CE12800 series switches, when a device captures IPv6 VXLAN packets, it will remove the first 16-byte headers from the packets.

  • When a CE12800 series switch captures incoming packets on service access points of an IPv6 VXLAN tunnel, known unicast packets are VXLAN encapsulated and unknown unicast packets are not.

  • The packet capturing function of the device conflicts with other functions (such as the function of sending protocol packets to the CPU and mirroring function). When the packet capturing function, the function of sending protocol packets to the CPU, and the mirroring function are configured simultaneously, only one function takes effect.

  • The device supports a maximum of eight capture instances.

  • The device cannot capture packets on stack ports or physical ports of stack members.

  • The device can capture packets only on Eth-Trunks, but not on member interfaces of an Eth-Trunk.
