Networking Requirements

In Figure 10-1, ServerA and ServerB connect to the Switch through an access switch, and the Switch connects to the Internet. Traffic between the servers and the Internet passes through the Switch. Part of traffic from the servers to the Internet is discarded. The network administrator determines that the traffic is discarded by the Switch, and wants to provide the packet drop reason to technical support personnel for fault location.

Configuration Roadmap

The configuration roadmap is as follows:
  1. Capture the discarded packets in the traffic sent from the servers to the Internet using a packet capture tool.
  2. Configure a packet trace profile based on which the Switch can construct a detection packet.
  3. Simulate packet forwarding process inside the Switch with a specified receiving interface.

Procedure

  1. Configure a packet trace profile.

    # Configure the packet trace profile on the Switch. The profile specifies the detection packet content, and the content of the detection packet can be obtained using the packet capture tool.
