Networking Requirements

Users want to obtain packet loss information and the impact on specific services. In Figure 11-3, you can configure the discarded packet capture function on DeviceB, and configure DeviceB as a Telemetry device to send information about the captured discarded packets to a collector through a GRPC interface. This will facilitate network fault locating and diagnosis.

Configuration Roadmap

The configuration roadmap is as follows:
  1. Configure DeviceB to sample information about the captured discarded packets through Telemetry.
  2. Configure a target collector.
  3. Create a subscription and set up a GRPC connection.
  4. Configure the discarded packet capture function on DeviceB.

Data Plan

The following data is needed to complete the configuration:

Configure an IP address and a routing protocol for each interface so that all devices can communicate at the network layer.

  • Device
    • IP address: 192.168.1.1
    • Port number: 100
  • Collector
    • IP address: 192.168.2.1
    • Port number: 100

Procedure

  1. Configure an IP address and a routing protocol for each interface so that all devices can communicate at the network layer.
  2. Configure DeviceB to sample information about the captured discarded packets through Telemetry.

  5. Configure the discarded packet capture function.

    # Configure DeviceB to capture the packets discarded during forwarding and the outgoing packets discarded due to congestion. By default, the device captures the outgoing packets discarded due to congestion. In this example, do not configure the egress parameter.

  6. Verify the configuration.

    # After the configuration is complete, run the display qos capture statistics drop-packet command to view information about the captured discarded packets. If there is information displayed, packet loss occurs on the device.
