Licensing Requirements and Limitations for SNMP

Licensing Requirements and Limitations for SNMP

Involved Network Elements

The switch needs to work with a network management system.

Licensing Requirements

The SNMP IPv6 function is controlled by a license. By default, this function is disabled on newly purchased CE12800 and CE12800E series switches. To use the SNMP IPv6 feature, apply for and purchase the license from the equipment supplier.

Version Requirements

Table 1-5 Products and minimum version supporting SNMP
Product Model Minimum Version Required
CE12804/CE12808/CE12812 V100R001C00
CE12816 V100R003C00
CE12804S/CE12808S V100R005C00
CE12800E V200R002C50

Feature Limitations

  • The port number and authentication parameters configured on the NMS must be the same as those on the device, and the SNMP version used on the NMS must be enabled on the device; otherwise, the NMS will not be able to manage the device. When SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c are used, the NMS uses the write community name configured on the device as both read and write community names if only a write community name is configured on the device.

  • SNMPv1 does not support the GetBulk operation or Inform traps, and IPv6 networks do not support Inform traps.

  • When V100R005C00 or a later version is downgraded to V100R003C10 or an earlier version, or V100R003C10 is downgraded to V100R003C00 or an earlier version, some SNMP configurations are lost.

  • In V100R005C10 and earlier versions, if you use an SNMPv3 account to access the NMS, the connection with the NMS cannot be recovered within 190 seconds after the device is power cycled. The traps generated within this period cannot be sent to the NMS. To view the traps generated within the 190 seconds, you can use either of the following methods:
    • Wait until the connection between the device and NMS is recovered and the NMS completes trap synchronization from the device, and then view the traps on the NMS.
    • Log in to the device, and display traps generated on the device.
