Licensing Requirements and Limitations for VLL

Licensing Requirements and Limitations for VLL

Involved Network Elements

Other network elements are not required.

License Requirements

You can use the VLL feature only after the MPLS function is enabled. The MPLS function is controlled by a license. By default, MPLS is disabled on a new device. To use the MPLS function, apply for and purchase the license from the equipment supplier.

Feature Limitations

Limitations on VLL

  • VLL cannot be configured on the VLANIF 1.
  • The VLANIF interface configured with VLL can only correspond to one member interface.
  • The number of members in a VLAN bound to a VLL tunnel cannot be increased.
  • Only one VLAN can be bound to a VLL tunnel.
  • The device can use an LSP or a constraint-based routed label switched path (CR-LSP) to transmit the VLL service, but cannot load balance VLL service traffic between two tunnels.
  • When you configure VLL, an AC-side interface can only be a VLANIF interface and the link type can be access, hybrid, or trunk.

Limitations on VLL traffic statistics

  • Starting from V100R003C00, the device supports VLL traffic statistics.
  • Some traffic statistics data will be lost after an active/standby switchover or a card restart.
  • If the port is added to a VLAN that is bound to a VLL and another VLAN that has VLANIF traffic statistics collection enabled simultaneously, VLANIF traffic statistics collection does not take effect on the port.

Limitations when VLL is used with other services

  • Only the Admin-VS in port mode supports VLL; all VSs in group mode support VLL.
  • LDP over SR-TE is not supported in the VPLS scenario.
