Licensing Requirements and Limitations for BGP/MPLS IPv6 VPN

Licensing Requirements and Limitations for BGP/MPLS IPv6 VPN

Involved Network Elements

Other network elements are not required.

License Requirements

You can use the BGP/MPLS IPv6 VPN feature only after the MPLS function is enabled. The MPLS function is controlled by a license. By default, MPLS is disabled on a new device. To use the MPLS function, apply for and purchase the license from the equipment supplier. You can use the IPv6 MCE function independently without the need to enable MPLS, and IPv6 MCE is not under license control.

Version Requirements

Table 3-1 Products and minimum version supporting BGP/MPLS IPv6 VPN

Product Model

Minimum Version Required

In V100R002C00, only the IPv6 MCE function is supported.

Feature Limitations

Limitations on BGP/MPLS IPv6 VPN
  • RIP-1 cannot run on the BGP/MPLS IPv6 VPN backbone network.
  • The switch can use LSPs or CR-LSPs to transmit the BGP/MPLS IPv6 VPN service, but can load balance BGP/MPLS IPv6 VPN service traffic only between LSPs or between CR-LSPs.
  • The switch supports inter-AS IPv6 VPN Option B only when its cards work in enhanced mode. To configure the card interoperability mode, run the set forward capability enhanced command.
Limitations on deployment of BGP/MPLS IPv6 VPN and other services
  • Only the Admin-VS in port mode supports BGP/MPLS IPv6 VPN; all VSs in group mode support BGP/MPLS IPv6 VPN.
  • If a VPN instance is bound to a VLANIF interface on the ingress PE device, do not configure unicast reverse path forwarding (URPF) on the VLANIF interface. Otherwise, URPF may cause VPN traffic forwarding failures.
