Pre-configuring Devices

Pre-configuring Devices

Context

Pre-configuring devices allows you to configure physical devices before they go online and also to centrally deploy services on these devices. You can create offline devices and then deploy services on these devices.

After deploying services, you can install hardware components as planned. If a correct hardware component is installed in the correct position, services are activated successfully. If an incorrect hardware component is installed, the system processes the hardware component based on the configured conflicting policy.
  • If the installed hardware component takes precedence in the conflicting policy, the system deletes the pre-configuration and the configuration on the installed hardware component takes effect.
  • If the pre-configuration takes precedence in the conflicting policy, the system retains the pre-configuration and the installed hardware component cannot be registered or work properly. In this case, you must replace a correct hardware component or modify the pre-configuration.
To configure conflicting policies, run the device conflict-policy keep-config command.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Pre-configure devices.

    • Configure an offline device.

      Run device board slot-id board-type board-type

      An offline board is created.

      NOTE:
      • After physical devices go online, the system creates corresponding offline devices. Therefore, if physical devices are online, you can deploy services without having to create offline devices.

      • The type of offline devices to be created must be supported by physical devices.

      • Only one offline device can be configured in a slot, and offline devices cannot be replaced. To replace an offline device, you must delete the device and then run the device board command to create a new offline device.

      • Before using this command to pre-configure a leaf switch of an SVF system, you must run the port bind member member-id command in the fabric port view to bind a leaf ID to the fabric port.

    • Configure an offline card.

      Run device card slot-id/card-id card-type card-type

      An offline card is created.

      NOTE:
      • Only the CE8860EI, CE8861EI, CE8868EI support the configuration of offline cards.

      • After physical subcards go online, the system creates corresponding offline subcards. Therefore, if physical subcards are online, you can deploy services without having to create offline subcards.

      • The type of offline subcards to be created must be supported by physical devices.

      • Only one offline subcard can be configured in a slot, and offline subcards cannot be replaced. To replace an offline subcard, you must delete the subcard and then run the device card command to create a new offline subcard.

  3. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.
