Enabling 1588v2 Globally


In a PTP domain, a 1588v2 node functioning as an OC can synchronize the time with an upstream device or synchronize the time to a downstream device. In the system view, in addition to enabling 1588v2, you need to configure required basic information such as domain and virtual clock ID to build a 1588v2 clock synchronization network.

Perform the following steps on each 1588v2 device.


  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run ptp enable

    1588v2 is enabled.

    By default, 1588v2 is disabled on a switch.

  3. Run ptp device-type oc

    The 1588v2 clock mode is set to OC.

    By default, no 1588v2 clock mode is configured for a switch.

  4. (Optional) Run ptp slaveonly

    The OC is configured to work in slave-only mode.

    By default, an OC does not work in slave-only mode. That is, an OC can function as a master or slave clock.

  5. (Optional) Run ptp domain domain-value

    A clock domain ID is specified.

    By default, a 1588v2 device belongs to domain 0.

    Devices in the same clock domain can exchange 1588v2 messages to synchronize the time.

  6. (Optional) Run ptp virtual-clock-id clock-id-value

    A virtual clock ID is set.

    By default, a 1588v2 device has only the default clock ID and does not have a virtual clock ID. The default clock ID is generated by padding fffe in the middle of the system MAC address. For example, if the system MAC address is 111122223333, the default clock ID is 111122fffe223333.

  7. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.
