Clock Signal Transmission Modes

Master clock information is transmitted using bit streams of Ethernet line signals. Other devices extract the clock information from the Ethernet line signals through the clock chip, and then trace and lock the master clock. This is one of the most commonly used clock synchronization methods. It uses the existing Ethernet link for clock synchronization, removing the need to construct a dedicated clock synchronization network.

In Figure 5-12, Ethernet interfaces of the external clock, Device1, Device2, and Device3 are connected through Ethernet links. Device1 traces the external clock, Device2 traces the clock of Device1, and Device3 traces the clock of Device2. The three devices then synchronize the time with the external clock.
