Overview of Mirroring

Overview of Mirroring

Definition

The mirroring function copies the packets on a mirrored port (source port) to an observing port (destination port).

Purpose

During network maintenance, you may need to obtain and analyze packets in some conditions. For example, if you detect suspected attack packets, you need to obtain and analyze the packets without affecting packet forwarding.

The mirroring function copies packets on a mirrored port to an observing port without affecting packet forwarding. You can analyze packets copied to the observing port by using a monitoring device to monitor the network and rectify faults.
