Networking Requirements

In the VXLAN scenario shown in Figure 14-7, an enterprise allocates VNI 1000 and VNI 2000 to tenant 1 and tenant 2. Tenant 1 and tenant 2 access the VXLAN through SwitchB and SwitchC respectively. SwitchB and SwitchC set up VXLAN tunnels with SwitchA so that the tenants can communicate with each other and with external users. The network administrator wants to monitor VXLAN traffic and network resource usages of the tenants.

Configuration Roadmap

To monitor VXLAN traffic and network resource usage of tenant 1 and tenant 2, the network administrator needs to:

  • Configure the export of VXLAN flexible flow statistics on 10GE1/0/1 and 10GE1/0/2 of SwitchA
  • Collect statistics about the incoming traffic on the interfaces.
  • Send the statistics to the NetStream server for further analysis.

The configuration roadmap is as follows:

  1. Configure IP addresses for interfaces on SwitchA.
  2. Configure a VXLAN flexible flow statistics template.
  3. Configure NetStream sampling.
  4. Configure VXLAN flexible flow statistics export.
  5. Configure the version of exported packets.
  6. Enable VXLAN flexible flow statistics collection on interfaces.

Procedure

  1. Configure IP addresses for the interfaces on SwitchA as shown in Figure 14-7.

  2. Configure a VXLAN flexible flow statistics template.

    # Create a template named VXLAN-record to aggregate flows based on the destination and source IP addresses in the original Ethernet frames, and configure the exported packets to include the numbers of octets and packets.
