Overview of IOAM


In-band OAM (IOAM) is a network traffic monitoring technology that can be used to sense and measure the traffic forwarding path and forwarding quality by copying service traffic and adding OAM information to the copied traffic hop by hop.


During network maintenance, the packet forwarding path and forwarding delay may need to be verified in some scenarios. For example, if there are multiple forwarding paths, it is necessary to check whether packets are transmitted along a planned path. You can use IOAM to sample and copy the actual service packets, and add OAM information (such as the device ID, inbound and outbound interfaces, and timestamp) to the copied packets hop by hop. By analyzing the OAM information of the copied packets, you can monitor the packet forwarding path and forwarding quality.
