Networking Requirements

In Figure 9-5, all the hosts of a company access the Internet through SwitchA and belong to VLAN 10. The monitoring device Server is directly connected to SwitchA.

Internet access traffic of all the hosts needs to be monitored through the Server.

Configuration Roadmap

The configuration roadmap is as follows:

  1. Create VLAN 10 on SwitchA and add the ports connected to hosts to VLAN 10.
  2. Configure 10GE1/0/3 of SwitchA as a local observing port to forward mirrored packets to the Server.
  3. Configure VLAN 10 as a mirrored VLAN to copy Internet access traffic of all the hosts in VLAN 10 to the local observing port.


  1. Configure VLANs for the ports.

    [~SwitchA] vlan batch 10
    [*SwitchA] interface ge 1/0/1
    [*SwitchA-GE1/0/1] port default vlan 10

    [*SwitchA-GE1/0/2] commit

  2. Configure 10GE1/0/3 as the observing port.

    [~SwitchA] observe-port 1 interface 10ge 1/0/3
    [*SwitchA] commit

  3. Configure VLAN 10 as the mirrored VLAN.

    [~SwitchA] vlan 10
    [~SwitchA-vlan10] mirroring observe-port 1 inbound
    [*SwitchA-vlan10] commit
    [~SwitchA-vlan10] return

  4. Verify the configuration.

    # Run the display port-mirroring command to verify the VLAN mirroring configuration.

    <SwitchA> display port-mirroring
      VLAN mirroring:
