SNMP Configuration

SNMP Configuration

This chapter describes how to configure the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) to manage network elements.

Context

The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a standard network management protocol widely used on TCP/IP networks. The SNMP framework manages network elements using a central computer, known as a network management station (NMS), on which network management software is installed. There are three SNMP versions: SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, and SNMPv3. An SNMP system can run one or more SNMP versions.

NOTE:

SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c lack of authentication capabilities, resulting in vulnerability to security threats. When security is a concern, SNMPv3 is recommended.
