Configuring Discarded Packet Capture


When packet loss occurs in the chip of a device, the device only records the number of discarded packets, but not detailed information about the packets. Therefore, the impact on services cannot be evaluated, and network faults are hard to locate and diagnose in a timely manner. To resolve these problems, you can configure the discarded packet capture function. This function enables a device to send the packets discarded in the device chip to the CPU. The device then analyzes the characteristics and count of the discarded packets.


  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run qos capture drop-packet enable tcb [ ingress | egress ]

    The discarded packet capture function is enabled.

    By default, the discarded packet capture function is disabled.

    After the discarded packet capture function is enabled, the device captures the packets discarded during forwarding and sends information about the discarded packets to a collector through a GRPC interface.

  3. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.

Follow-up Procedure

If you want to send information about the captured discarded packets to a collector through a GRPC interface, configure Telemetry. The sampling path for captured discarded packets is huawei-qos:qos/qosGlobalCfgs/qosCaptureDropstats/qosCaptureDropstat. For details, see Configuring Telemetry Static Subscription.

Verifying the Configuration

  • Run the display qos capture statistics drop-packet { ip | ipv6 | ethernet } [ tcb ] slot slot-id command to view information about the captured discarded packets.
