Enabling a Switch to Perform sFlow Sampling in Enhanced Mode

Enabling a Switch to Perform sFlow Sampling in Enhanced Mode

Context

A switch can perform sFlow sampling in either of the following two modes:
  • Non-enhanced mode: A switch uses the CPU for sFlow sampling, which greatly affects CPU performance.
  • Enhanced mode: A switch uses CPU built-in chip for sFlow sampling, which therefore does not affect CPU performance and improves sFlow performance.

The CE6875EI supports sFlow sampling in enhanced mode, which improves sFlow performance. When sFlow sampling is performed in enhanced mode, the recommended sFlow sampling rate is 1/2k; otherwise, the recommended sFlow sampling rate is 1/10k.

NOTE:

Only CE6875EI supports the assign forward enp sflow enable command.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run assign forward enp sflow enable slot slot-id

The switch is enabled to perform sFlow sampling in enhanced mode.

By default, a switch performs sFlow sampling in non-enhanced mode; that is, a switch uses the CPU for sFlow sampling.

    NOTE:
    • When a switch performs sFlow sampling in enhanced mode, the switch cannot send sFlow packets through the management interface.

    • If both the assign forward enp sflow enable and assign forward enp netstream enable commands are run, the later one overwrites the previous one.

    • This command takes effect after the switch is restarted.

  3. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.
