Context

MIPs can be automatically generated based on rules or manually created on interfaces. Table 7-13 describes the differences between the two MIP creation modes.

MIPs are automatically created based on the MD or default MD.

After a MIP creation rule is configured, the device automatically generates a MIP based on the rule. Configuring creation rules is complex, but properly configured rules ensure correct MIP settings.

Manual

IEEE Standard 802.1ag-2007

The MIP level must be set. Manually configured MIPs take precedence over automatically generated MIPs. Although configuring MIPs manually is easy, it is difficult to manage many manually configured MIPs and errors may occur.

Automatic MIP creation rules are of explicit, default, and none types. Table 7-14 describes the differences between MIP creation rules are of explicit, default, and none types.

After a MIP creation rule is configured, either of the following operations triggers MIP creation or deletion:
  • Enable or disable CFM.

  • The MIP creation rule changes.

Create MIPs manually or automatically based on the network planning.

Procedure

  • Manually create a MIP.

    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run interface interface-type interface-number

      The interface view is displayed.

    3. Run cfm mip level level-value

      A MIP is created manually.

      By default, no MIP is created on the device.

    4. Run commit

      The configuration is committed.

  • Create a MIP automatically based on the MIP creation rule.

    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run cfm md md-name

      The MD view is displayed.

      Or run cfm default md [ level level ]

      The default MD view is displayed.

    3. Run mip create-type { default | explicit | none }

      A MIP creation rule in accordance with IEEE Standard 802.1ag-2007 is configured.

      By default, the MIP generation rule in an MD or default MD is none, indicating that no MIPs are generated.

    4. Run commit

      The configuration is committed.
