Stack Master/Standby Switchover

A master/standby switchover occurs in a stack when the master switch restarts or when a user runs the switchover command. Figure 1-19 illustrates how the roles of member switches change after a master/standby switchover.

  1. The original standby switch becomes the new master switch.
  2. The new master switch selects a standby switch.
  3. The original master switch rejoins the stack as a slave switch after it restarts.
