Splitting a Stack
Context
Back up the stack configuration file in case the stack will be used again.
Clear the stack configuration and restart member switches. After the switches restart, they run as standalone switches without a configuration file.
Remove stack cables.
When splitting a stack, you are advised to connect all member switches through their console ports. If you connect member switches through their management interfaces, you cannot log in to the switches through their management interfaces because they run without a configuration file after the stack configuration is cleared.
If you delete the stack configuration step by step instead of clearing the stack configuration to split a stack, after the stack is split, you need to change IP addresses of some member switches to prevent an IP address conflict.
Procedure
- Run the save command to save the configuration.
- Run the copy source-filename destination-filename all command to back up the configuration file to all the member switches.
- Run the reset saved-configuration command to clear the stack configuration.
- Run the reboot command to restart the stack.
After the stack is restarted, each member switch runs as a standalone switch without a configuration file.
NOTE:
When restarting a stack, do not save the configuration.
- Remove stack cables between the member switches.
