Installing the eReplication Agent on a Solaris-based Host

Installing the eReplication Agent on a Solaris-based Host

This operation installs the eReplication Agent on a Solaris-based host. The eReplication Agent starts automatically after being successfully installed.

Prerequisites

  • The software packages, reference documentation, and tools required by the eReplication Server have been obtained. For details, see Obtaining Installation Packages and Documentation.
  • The signature file and digital signature public key have been obtained and the software integrity has been verified.
    1. On the page for downloading the eReplication software package, you can download the .asc digital signature file whose name is the same as that of the software package.
    2. You have used the digital signature public key and verification tool provided by the website to verify the digital signature of the software package. You can obtain the digital signature public key, verification tool, and their usage methods from:

Context

If you need to install the eReplication Agent again after uninstalling it, you can decompress either the old or new installation package to install the eReplication Agent. After the reinstallation is complete, you need to perform operations such as adding the host, creating protected groups, and creating recovery plans for the host on eReplication.

NOTE:
The installation package name of the eReplication Agent is in the format of software name software version_Agent-application server's CPU architecture and bit number.tar.gz. The following details each part of the installation package name:
  • Software version must be the actual version in use. In this document, software version is represented by an asterisk (*).
  • Application server's CPU architecture and bit number: The format varies according to the number of CPU bits of application servers.

This section uses OceanStor BCManager *_Agent-Solaris_64.tar.gz as an example.

Procedure

  1. Check whether the firewall is enabled.

    • If no, ensure whether the firewall is required.
    • If yes, open the firewall port (port number: 59526) of the server where the eReplication Agent is to be installed. For details about how to open the firewall port, see Configuring the Firewall.

  2. Log in to the application server as user root.

The eReplication Agent must be installed by user root.

  3. Create user rdadmin.

    NOTE:
    • When creating the user, you can set the Shell type to bash, ksh, or csh. This section uses bash as an example.
    • User rdadmin has no permission to remotely log in to the host. Therefore, if you want to perform maintenance as user rdadmin after the installation, you need to log in to the DR host as user root and then run the su - rdadmin command to switch to user rdadmin.

    1. Run the echo $SHELL command to view the default Shell type of user rdadmin.

The Shell type can be bash, ksh, or csh.

    2. Run the useradd -m -s /usr/local/bin/bash rdadmin command to create user rdadmin.

      NOTE:

This section uses /usr/local/bin/bash as the bash path. The actual path prevails.

    3. Run the passwd rdadmin command to change the password of user rdadmin.

The command output is displayed as follows:

      Changing password for rdadmin.
      New Password:

    4. Re-enter the original password of user rdadmin and press Enter.

The command output is displayed as follows:

      Reenter New Password:

      NOTE:
The password must meet the following complexity requirements:
      • Contains at least eight characters.
      • Contains at least the following characters:
        • Uppercase letters
        • Lowercase letters
        • Digits
        • Special characters
      • Cannot be the same as the username or the mirror writing of the username.
      • Cannot be the same as any word in dictionaries.

    5. Enter the new password again and press Enter.

The password is changed successfully if the following command output is displayed:

      Password changed.

    6. Run the passwd -l rdadmin command to disable this user to remote login.
  4. If the protected object is Oracle, configure environmental variables for the operating system.

For details, see Checking and Configuring Database Environmental Variables in Common Check Items of Checking the Oracle DR Environment.

  5. If the /export/home/rdadmin/Agent directory does not exist, create the Agent directory under the /export/home/rdadmin directory.
    1. Run the cd /export/home/rdadmin command to go to the /export/home/rdadmin directory.
    2. Run the mkdir Agent command to create the Agent directory.
  6. Run the su - rdadmin command to switch to user rdadmin.
  7. Run the /export/home/rdadmin/Agent/bin/agentcli show command to check whether the eReplication Agent is installed.

    • The eReplication Agent is installed successfully if the following command output is displayed:

      SVN : 38594
      rdagent : Running
      nginx : Running
      monitor : Running

      • If an earlier version of the eReplication Agent is installed, you need to uninstall it and install the latest version. For details about how to uninstall the eReplication Agent, see Uninstalling the eReplication Agent from a Solaris-based Host.
      • If the latest version of the eReplication Agent is installed, skip the following steps.
    • The eReplication Agent is not installed if the following command output is displayed. Then go to 9.
      -bash::# /export/home/rdadmin/Agent/bin/agentcli show
-bash: /export/home/rdadmin/Agent/bin/agentcli: No such file or directory

  8. Run the exit command to switch to user root.
  9. Copy installation package OceanStor BCManager *_Agent-Solaris_64.tar.gz of the eReplication Agent to the /export/home/rdadmin/Agent directory on the production application server.

    NOTE:

The installation path of the eReplication Agent is /export/home/rdadmin/Agent. The path is fixed.

  10. Rename the eReplication Agent installation package, for example, solaris_agent.tar.gz.
  11. Run the cd /export/home/rdadmin/Agent command to go to the directory where the eReplication Agent's installation package resides.

      NOTE:

By default, the eReplication Agent starts automatically after being installed.

Follow-up Procedure

For security purposes, users may want to use a certificate issued by a third-party certification authority. The eReplication Agent allows users to replace authentication certificates and private key files as long as users provide the authentication certificates and private-public key pairs. For details about how to replace the server certificate for the eReplication Agent, see Replacing Certificates on the eReplication Agent.
