VRG Account Management

VRG Account Management

If the protected objects are FusionSphere VMs and the host-based replication technology is used for DR, you are advised to periodically change the passwords of the VRG accounts to prevent security risks.

Changing the Password of the root Account

This operation changes the password of user root of the operating system on the VRG node to improve system operation security.

Prerequisites

  • A cross-platform remote access tool, such as PuTTY, has been obtained.
  • The management IP address of the node on which the password is to be changed has been obtained.
  • The passwords of users root and gandalf of the VRG node on which the password is to be changed haven been obtained.

Context

The default passwords of users gandalf and root are Huawei@CLOUD8 and Huawei@CLOUD8! respectively.

Procedure

  1. Use PuTTY to log in to the operating system of the node on which the password is to be changed

    as user gandalf by using the management IP address.

  2. Run the su root command and enter the password of user root as prompted to switch to user root.
  3. Run the TMOUT=0 command to prevent PuTTY from exiting due to session timeout.

    NOTE:

    After you run this command, the system continues to run when no operation is performed, resulting a risk. For security purposes, you are advised to run exit to exit the system after completing your operations.

  4. Run the passwd command to change the login password for the operating system.

    The password complexity requirements are as follows:

Changing the Password of the gandalf Account

This operation allows system administrators to change the password of user gandalf of the operating system on the VRG node to improve system operation security.

Prerequisites

  • The management IP address of the node on which the password is to be changed, as well as the password of user gandalf have been obtained.
  • A cross-platform remote access tool, such as PuTTY, has been obtained.

Context

The default password of user gandalf is Huawei@CLOUD8.

Procedure

  1. Use PuTTY to log in to the operating system of the node on which the password is to be changed

    as user gandalf by using the Management IP Address.

  2. Run the passwd command to change the login password for the operating system.

    The following command output is displayed:

  3. Type the old password and press Enter.

    The following command output is displayed:

    New Password:
    NOTE:
    The password complexity requirements are as follows:
    • Contains at least eight characters.
    • Contains at least the following characters:
      • Uppercase letters

Changing the Password of the VRG's Northbound Authentication Account

This operation changes the password of the VRG northbound REST interface authentication account to improve system operation security.

Prerequisites

  • A cross-platform remote access tool, such as PuTTY, has been obtained.
  • The management IP address of the node on which the password is to be changed, as well as the password of user gandalf have been obtained.
  • The VRG's northbound REST interface authentication account and the old password have been obtained.

Context

The default password of user gandalf is Huawei@CLOUD8. The username of the VRG's northbound REST interface authentication account is admin and its default password is Huawei@CLOUD8!.

NOTE:

This section uses FusionSphere V100R005C10 version as an example to explain how to change the pairing authentication password. The operations vary with versions.

Procedure

  1. Use PuTTY to log in to the operating system of the node on which the password is to be changed

    as user gandalf by using the Management IP Address.

  2. Run the TMOUT=0 command to prevent PuTTY from exiting due to session timeout.

    NOTE:

    After you run this command, the system continues to run when no operation is performed, resulting a risk. For security purposes, you are advised to run exit to exit the system after completing your operations.

  3. Run the cd /opt/galax/vrg/webserver/VrgTools command to enter the script save path.
  4. Run the python vrgtools.py command to change the password.

    The following command output is displayed:

    Function list:
        0. exit.
        1. change password for UltraVR-rest.
        2. initialization vrg_conf.xml.
        3. changing password for Vrg_trap.
        4. initial VRG net information.
        5. modify net information.
        6. change password for vrg authentication.
    NOTE:
    If the VRG version is FusionCompute V100R006C00, run the python2.7 vrgtools.py command. The following command output is displayed:
    Function list:
        0. exit.
        1. change password for UltraVR-rest.
        2. initialization vrg_conf.xml.
        3. changing password for Vrg_trap.
        4. initial VRG net information.
        5. modify net information.
        6. change password for vrg authentication.
        7. disable or enable TLS1.0 protocol.

    Enter 7 to enable or disable the protocol.

  6. Enter the account, old password, and new password as prompted.

    The password complexity requirements are as follows:
    • Contains 8 to 32 characters.
    • Must contain at least two of the following types of characters:
      • Uppercase letters
      • Lowercase letters
      • Digits
      • Special characters include spaces and `~!@#$%^&*()-_=+\|[{}];:'",<.>/?

Follow-up Procedure

After changing the password of the VRG's northbound REST interface authentication account, change the password of eReplication's northbound REST interface authentication account accordingly.

Changing the Password of the Alarm Reporting Account of the VRG's SNMP Agent

This operation changes the password of the alarm reporting account of the VRG's SNMP agent to improve system operation security.

Prerequisites

  • A cross-platform remote access tool, such as PuTTY, has been obtained.
  • The management IP address of the node on which the password is to be changed, as well as the password of user gandalf have been obtained.
  • The password of the alarm reporting account of the VRG's SNMP agent and the old password have been obtained.

Context

The default password of user gandalf is Huawei@CLOUD8. The alarm reporting account of the VRG's SNMP agent is admin. After the VRG is installed, there is no default password.

NOTE:

This section uses FusionSphere V100R005C10 version as an example to explain how to change the pairing authentication password. The operations vary with versions.

Procedure

  1. Use PuTTY to log in to the operating system of the node on which the password is to be changed

    as user gandalf by using the Management IP Address.

    NOTE:
    If the VRG version is FusionCompute V100R006C00, configure the password for the SNMP as follows:
    • When initializing the password, you need to enter the username and password of the VRG's northbound REST interface, the Trap authentication password, and the Trap encryption password.
    • When changing the password, you need to enter the username and password of the VRG's northbound REST interface, the old Trap authentication password, the old Trap encryption password, the new Trap authentication password, and the new Trap encryption password.
    The password complexity requirements are as follows:
    • Contains 8 to 32 characters.
    • Must contain special characters, including !"#$%&'()*+,-./:;<=>?@[\]^`{_|}~ and spaces.
    • Must contain upper-case letters, lower-case letters, and digits.
    • Cannot be the same as the username or the mirror writing of the username.
    NOTE:
    The new password must be the same as the password of the alarm reporting account of the SNMP agent on the Server side.

Changing the VRG's Pairing Authentication Password

This operation changes the VRG's pairing authentication password to improve system operation security.

Prerequisites

  • A cross-platform remote access tool, such as PuTTY, has been obtained.
  • The management IP address of the node on which the password is to be changed, as well as the password of user gandalf have been obtained.
  • The VRG's old pairing authentication password has been obtained.

Context

  • The default password of user gandalf is Huawei@CLOUD8.
  • After VRGs are paired, you need to use the password for authentication. There is no account, and the default password is Huawei@CLOUD8!. The authentication password of both VRGs needs to be changed.
NOTE:

This section uses FusionSphere V100R005C10 version as an example to explain how to change the pairing authentication password. The operations vary with versions.
