License Management

License Management

Functions provided by eReplication available only after the license of eReplication is imported and activated.

Context

A license is controlled by its license file that defines the application scope, functions, and expiration date of a product.

eReplication can be used to control host or VM quantity by applying for a license. The description of licenses is as follows:
  • Basic edition

License quantity is not restricted. You cannot add hosts, create VM protected groups, check topologies, and perform recovery plans.

  • Platinum edition or edition for Huawei VM carriers
    • VM quantity is not restricted. When the system counts the number of VMs, Huawei VMs of the Platinum edition or edition for Huawei VM carriers are excluded.
    • If the license for the advanced edition is not imported, eReplication on which has hosts, VMware VMs, and FusionSphere VMs in OpenStack architecture are installed, is of the basic edition.
    • If the license for the advanced edition is imported, eReplication controls hosts, VMware VMs, and FusionSphere VMs in OpenStack architecture that are added to eReplication, based on the license.
  • Advanced edition
    • Hosts

If you try to add a host when the number of hosts for DR protection and recovery reaches that authenticated by the license, the host fails to be added.

    • VMs

If you try to create a protected group when the number of counted VMs reaches that authenticated by the license, the protected group fails to be added. The following shows how VMs are counted:

      1. Check whether the edition of FusionCompute FusionManager is the platinum edition or edition for Huawei VM carriers.
        • If yes, exclude Huawei VMs.
        • If no, count all VMs running on FusionCompute and FusionManager.
      2. Count FusionSphere VMs in OpenStack architecture.
      3. Count all VMware VMs running on vCenter servers.
      4. Sum up the numbers of VMs counted from 1 to 3.

Without importing a license, you can use all DR services for the first 90 days. After that, you can only use functions provided by the basic edition.

Procedure

  1. On the menu bar, select Settings.
  2. In the navigation tree, choose License Management > License Management.
  3. Click Import and select license files to be activated.

The system automatically checks the format and content of license files. If the check passes, the system automatically activates the imported licenses.

    NOTE:
For details about how to apply for licenses, see the OceanStor BCManager 6.5.0 eReplication License Application Instructions. The document can be obtained from the following path:

  4. After the license files are imported, check whether they are what you apply for.

Follow-up Procedure

Click Export. You can save the license files locally for easy backup.
