About Site

About Site

This section describes the definitions and restrictions of site.

Definitions

Sites are the resource organizing units in a DR management system. Users can configure DR protection services in a site or between sites.

Sites are categorized into local sites and remote sites by location.
  • Local sites: sites that are directly managed by the local eReplication server.
  • Remote sites: sites that are managed by a remote eReplication server.
By protection relationship, sites are divided into production sites and DR sites.
  • Production sites: The protected sites running production systems (service systems of enterprises).
  • DR sites: sites running the DR system and providing DR backups for production systems. If a disaster occurs, a DR site can be used to recover services.
NOTE:

The eReplication server that manages a production site as a local site is called a production-end DR management system (the production end for short). The eReplication server that manages a DR site as a local site is called a DR-end DR management system (the DR end for short). In local high-availability and three-data center DR scenarios, the production end and DR end may use the same eReplication server.

Restrictions

In DR planning, you must specify production sites or DR sites based on the following requirements.

  • In centralized deployment (local DR) mode, you need to create local sites to manage production resources and DR resources respectively. Then establish a DR relationship between the two sites for centralized operations on the DR-end DR management server.
  • Distributed deployment (remote DR) mode, these operations need to be completed on both the production-end and DR-end DR management servers.
    1. Creating a local site and add storage and computing resources to the production-end DR management server.
    2. Creating a local site and add storage and computing resources to the DR-end DR management server.
    3. Adding the remote management server to the production-end DR management server to add the local site managed by the DR-end eReplication to the production-end DR management server.
    4. Adding the remote management server to the DR-end DR management server to add the local site managed by the production-end eReplication to the DR-end DR management server.
  • In active-active (VIS)and mirroring (VIS) DR scenarios, the software does not support the management of multiple sites currently. All DR resources must be added at one site.
