About Protected Group

About Protected Group

This section describes the definition and restrictions of protected group.

Definition

Protected groups are the objects of DR protection services of DR management systems. They comprise protected objects and protection policies. You can create protected groups for objects such as databases, local file systems, LUNs, NAS file systems, and VMs. Based on your RPO and RTO requirements, you can use different protection policies for DR protection.

Restrictions

  • In a DR management system, the administrator can create a protected group for local objects only.
  • A protected object can be added only to one protected group of a protection policy.
  • Applications in a protected group must have independent storage devices. Storage devices used by an application of a protected group cannot be used by any unprotected application; Otherwise, the unprotected application will be affected after applications in the protected group are recovered.
  • If VIS snapshot policy templates are used, configure sufficient cache and data change object (DCO) disks on the VIS management interface before creating snapshots to ensure sufficient storage space.
