Preparing for the installation

Make preparations before installing the eReplication DR management software to improve installation efficiency.

Installing eReplication Server

eReplication Server can be installed on VMs or physical servers, supports using a software package to install eReplication Server, and support template-based installation of FusionSphere OpenStack.
eReplication Server provides the following installation components:
  • Basic management components: providing various platform functions including system configuration, alarm monitoring, DR protection, recovery setting, and DR reports as well as the integrated environment for running DR service components.
  • FusionSphere DR management components: providing the DR protection function for FusionSphere.
  • Application DR management components: providing the DR protection function for applications including Oracle, IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, and Microsoft Exchange Server as well as local file systems.
  • VMware vSphere DR management components: providing the DR protection function for VMware vSphere.

If you install eReplication Server using a software package, the basic management components are mandatory and the other three component categories are optional.

Installing eReplication Agent

If the protected objects are Oracle databases, IBM DB2 databases, Microsoft SQL Server databases, Microsoft Exchange Server mailbox databases, InterSystems Caché, and local NTFS, EXT3, EXT4 or XFS file systems, you need to install eReplication Agent on the DR host.

eReplication Agent can be installed on VMs or physical servers using a software package.

Installing VRG

When the protected objects are FusionSphere VMs and host-based replication-based DR is adopted, you need to install the host-based replication software Virtual Replication Gateway (VRG).

To ensure system security, you are advised to change the default password immediately after you install eReplication Server, eReplication Agent, and the VRG. For details about how to change the passwords, see eReplication Account Management.
