Local File System

This section introduces the DR restrictions for local file system protected objects.

You must comply with version restrictions when implementing DR for a protected object supported by eReplication. Read description in Table 1-16 before implementing DR for a local file system.

  • Supported file systems are NTFS, EXT3, and EXT4.
  • Operating systems supported by NTFS file systems are Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and Microsoft Windows 2012.
  • Operating systems supported by EXT3 file systems are SUSE Linux, Red Hat Linux, and Rocky of Meditation rock.
  • Operating systems supported by EXT4 file systems are SUSE Linux and Red Hat Linux.
  • Operating systems supported by XFS file systems are SUSE Linux 11 SP3.

DR protection

  • DR protection cannot be implemented for NTFS file systems that are created on dynamic volumes.
  • DR protection cannot be implemented for NTFS file systems configured based on UDEV rules.

Recovery operations

  • In the solution based on cascading replication (synchronous and asynchronous) or parallel replication (synchronous and asynchronous), when services are switched over to the remote DR site, reprotection cannot be implemented.
  • In the solution based on cascading replication (asynchronous and asynchronous), when services are switched over to the remote DR site, reprotection cannot be implemented.

Others

  • VSS can be used to ensure the data consistency between NTFS file systems. The prerequisite is that the operating systems have enabled the VSS service.
  • Data consistency between EXT3, EXT4, or XFS file systems can be ensured. The prerequisite is that the Linux kernel versions must be 2.6.29 or later.
  • The Agent cannot be installed on the disk where the protected NTFS file system resides.
  • The mount point path of the local file system cannot contain more than 200 characters.
