Manually Performing an Active/Standby Switchover in HA Mode

After HA mode is deployed on the eReplication Server, when the active server needs to be upgraded or powered off, you need to manually switch the eReplication Server service from the active server to the standby server.

Prerequisites

  • A cross-platform remote access tool, such as PuTTY, has been obtained.
  • You have obtained the password of user root used to log in to the Linux operating system on the active server.
  • The communication between the active server and the standby server is normal and the service is running properly.

Context

  • You can perform HA switchover manually only on the active server.
  • This operation will interrupt the running DR service and the DR service will be unavailable during the switchover. You are advised to perform HA switchover manually when the service load is light.
  • After this operation, the DR service is switched from the active server to the standby server. The original active server will be switched to be the standby server, and the original standby server will be switched to be the active server.
  • You cannot perform HA switchover manually when reprotection, planned migration, or fault recovery of the service instance is performed.

Procedure

  1. Use PuTTY to log in to the active server as user root.
  2. Run the following command to prevent PuTTY from exiting due to session timeout:

    TMOUT=0

    NOTE:

    After you run this command, the system continues to run when no operation is performed, resulting a risk. For security purposes, you are advised to run the exit command to exit the system after completing your operations.

  3. Run the following command to go to the save directory of the script.

    cd /opt/BCManager/Runtime/bin

    NOTE:

    In Linux, the installation path of the eReplication Server is /opt/BCManager. The path is fixed.

  4. Run the following command to perform HA perform active/standby switchover manually..

    sh switchOverSystem.sh

    The following command output is displayed:

    You are about to switch the DR system to the standby server.
    This operation will stop the DR system on the active server and switch the DR system to the standby server. The DR protection configured during the switchover is invalid.
    
    Suggestion: Ensure that this operation is performed when no protection task is being executed.
    
    Are you sure you want to switch the DR system to the standby server? (y/n): [y]
    

  5. Enter y and press Enter.

    The following command output is displayed:

    Switchover in progress. Please check the HA status later.
    NOTE:

    Wait three minutes and run the sh showSystemStatus.sh command to query the HA mode of the current management node. If the HA mode switches from active to standby, this operation is successful.
