Configuring Remote Alarm Notification

eReplication provides two remote alarm notification methods (by email or short message). This enables the maintenance personnel to know device alarms anytime and anywhere, improving fault handling efficiency.

NOTE:

Personal data such as email addresses and mobile numbers are required to receive alarm notifications. You must comply with the laws of involved countries or the Huawei Privacy Policy and take measures to protect personal data.

Configure the Notification Server

  • Configuring the email notification server
    1. On the menu bar, choose Settings > Notification Server > Notification Server.
    2. In the Email Server area, configure email server parameters. Table 7-3 describes related parameters.

      IP address of the SMTP server used for sending alarm notification emails.

      • Configure the SMTP server in standard mode.
      • The SMTP server supports an IPv4 address and IPv6 address.

      Port number of the SMTP server.

      The value must be an integer from 1 to 65535.

      Sender Email

      Email address that sends alarm notification emails.

      • name can contain letters, digits, and special characters -_.!#$%&'*+/=?^`{|}~.
      • domain can contain letters, digits, and special characters -_. (domain can contain multiple domain name suffixes).

      Recipient Email

      Email address used to test the communication between the NMS server and the email server.

      Encryption Method

      Encryption Method used by the email server to communicate with eReplication. The value can be Disable, SSL, or TLS.

      NOTE:

      The default value is TLS. If SSL is used, the communication between the email server and eReplication may encounter security risks. Therefore, TLS is recommended.

      SSL Port

      Number of the SMTP server's SSL port.

      This parameter is required when Security Protocol is set to SSL.

      SMTP Server Authentication

      Whether the SMTP server authenticates senders' identities. If SMTP Server Authentication is not selected, Username and Password cannot be configured.

      Username

      Username for accessing the SMTP server.

      If SMTP Server Authentication is selected, this parameter must be configured.

      The username cannot be blank.

      [Example]

      Password

      Password for accessing the SMTP server.

      If SMTP Server Authentication is selected, this parameter must be configured.

      [Value range]

      A character string that contains 1 to 64 characters.

      Proxy Server

      Information about the proxy server.

      IP Address

      IP address of the proxy server.

      If Proxy Server is selected, this parameter must be configured.

      192.168.10.11

      Port

      Port number used by a proxy server.

      If Proxy Server is selected, this parameter must be configured.

      The value must be an integer from 1 to 65535.

    3. After the parameters are specified, you can click Test to check whether the communication is normal between the NMS server and the email server.
      • If the test mailbox receives the test message, the communication is normal between the NMS server and email server.
      • If the test mailbox fails to receive the test message, the communication is abnormal between the NMS server and the email server. Troubleshoot the fault as prompted.
    4. Click OK.
  • Configuring the SMS notification server
    1. On the menu bar, choose Settings > Notification Server > Notification Server.
    2. In the SMS Server area, configure the SMS modem. Table 7-4 describes related parameters.

      Identifier of the NMS server's serial port used for connecting to the SMS modem.

      Configure this parameter based on site requirements. For example, if the NMS server is connected to the SMS modem through serial port COM1 of the NMS server, set this parameter to COM1.

      • In Windows, if the NMS server is connected to the SMS modem through serial port COM1, set the serial port identifier to COM1.
      • In Linux, if the NMS server is connected to the SMS modem through serial port COM1, set the serial port identifier to /dev/ttyS0.

      Baud Rate

      Baud rate of the SMS modem.

      Set the baud rate based on site requirements.

      Country Code

      Code of the country where the customer site is located.

      Phone Number

      Mobile phone number used for testing the communication between the NMS server and SMS modem.

    3. You can click Test to check whether the test mobile phone can receive the test message.
      • If the test mobile phone can receive the test message, the communication is normal between the NMS server and the SMS modem.
      • If the test mobile phone fails to receive the test message, the communication is abnormal between the NMS server and the SMS modem. Troubleshoot the fault as prompted.
    4. Click Test.

Create Email and Short Message Notification Rules

After the email notification server and SMS notification server are configured, create notification rules to help maintenance engineers receive alarm information in time.

  1. On the menu bar, choose Monitor > Alarms > Remote Notification.
  2. Click Create.
  3. Configure the parameters of the remote alarm notification rule. Table 7-5 describes related parameters.

    Name

    Name of the remote alarm notification rule.

    Contains 1 to 32 characters, including letters, digits, underscores (_), and hyphens (-), and can start only with a letter or an underscore (-).

    Description

    Brief description about the remote alarm notification rule, helping the maintenance personnel know the rule without viewing the rule details.

    Contains 0 to 128 characters.

    Date and Time

    Start and end time of the remote alarm notification rule's validity period.

    The start time cannot be later than the end time.

    Click to select date and time and click OK.

    Language

    Remote alarm notification language.

    The value can be Simplified Chinese or English.

    Sending Content

    Remote alarm notification content.

    Available fields include Severity, Name, Type, Source, Generated On, Clear Status, and Description.

    Status

    Whether the remote alarm notification is enabled.

    If you do not need to use the remote alarm notification function, you can set this parameter to Close. You can click Enable to enable the remote alarm notification when necessary.

    The value can be Close or Enable.

  4. Click Next. Then select the type of resources to which the remote alarm notification will be applied from the NE tree on the left, and select the resource whose alarms will be sent from the resource list on the right.

    NOTE:
    Only one resource type can be selected. In the resource list on the right, you can search for desired resources by name and IP address.


  5. Click Next and select alarms for which remote notifications will be sent.

    You can search for the desired alarms by alarm severity (critical, major, warning, or info). Then, select the specific alarms for which remote notifications will be sent. For example, you can select Critical to search for all the critical alarms of the NE, and select specific alarms for which remote notifications will be sent.

    NOTE:
    This list contains all the alarms on the selected resource models. The supported alarms may vary with resource versions.


  6. Click Next. Then select the notification method, and add mobile phone numbers or email addresses for receiving remote notifications.

    • You can click to add a mobile phone number or email address, or to delete one.
    • Either the mobile phone number or the email address must be specified.
    • A maximum of 10 mobile phone numbers or email addresses can be added at a time.


  7. Click Finish.
