About Host and Host Group

This section describes the definitions and restrictions of host and host group.

Definitions

  • A host is an application server in a production or DR site. A protected host in a production site is called a production host while a host used for tests or DR recovery in a DR site is called a DR host.
  • A group of hosts, the hosts in the group are the application configuration of the same type, operating system, service and cluster/HA.

Restrictions

  • All hosts in a cluster must join the same host group. Hosts from different clusters cannot join the same host group.
  • On each host, eReplication Agent must be installed.
  • If the production site has only one host, the DR site must use one host only. If the production site has a cluster, the DR site may use a cluster or a single host.
