Disabling the HTTP Protocol

Disabling the HTTP Protocol

If HTTP is enabled, you can access the network management system by directly entering the IP address. Then, the HTTP connection is redirected to HTTPS. However, HTTP is a less secure protocol. You are advised to disable HTTP.

Prerequisites

  • A cross-platform remote access tool, such as PuTTY, has been obtained.
  • The management IP address of the management server where the eReplication Server resides has been obtained.
  • The login password of user root or DRManager in Linux or that of the administrator in Windows has been obtained.
Before disabling the HTTP protocol, you need to stop the eReplication. After eReplication is stopped, you cannot use eReplication to perform DR management. Stop eReplication only for fault diagnosis.

Procedure

  • Disable the HTTP protocol in Linux.
    1. Use PuTTY to log in to the eReplication management server.

      • In template-based installation mode: Log in as user DRManager, and run the su root command to switch to user root.
      • In software package-based installation mode: Log in as user root.
      NOTE:

The default password of user DRManager is Huawei@CLOUD8. In template-based installation mode, the default password of user root is Huawei@CLOUD8!.

    2. Run the TMOUT=0 command to prevent PuTTY from exiting due to session timeout.

      NOTE:

After you run this command, the system continues to run when no operation is performed, resulting a risk. For security purposes, you are advised to run exit to exit the system after completing your operations.

    3. Run the cd /opt/BCManager/Runtime/bin/ command to go to the eReplication service control directory.
    4. Run the sh shutdownSystem.sh command to stop the eReplication service.
    5. Run the cd /opt/BCManager/Runtime/Tomcat6/conf/ command to go to the eReplication Tomcat configuration directory.
    6. Disable the HTTP protocol.

      1. Run the vi server.xml command to open the server.xml file.
      2. Press i to go to the edit mode and edit the server.xml file.
      3. Delete the following content from the file:
        <Connector port="8080" protocol="HTTP/1.1" connectionTimeout="50000" maxPostSize="30240" redirectPort="9443" URIEncoding="UTF-8" address="192.168.170.10"/>

      4. Press Esc to exit the edit mode.
      5. Run the :wq command to save the modification and close the server.xml file.

    7. Run iptables -D PREROUTING -t nat -p tcp --dport 80 -j REDIRECT --to-port 8080 to delete the iptables rule.
    8. Run sed -i -e "/iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp --dport 80 -j REDIRECT --to-port 8080/d" "/etc/init.d/boot.local" to clear the start configuration.
    9. Run the cd /opt/BCManager/Runtime/bin/ command to go to the eReplication service control directory.
    10. Run the sh startSystem.sh command to start the eReplication service.
  • Disable the HTTP protocol in Windows.
    1. Log in to the management server where the eReplication Server resides as an administrator.
    2. Open the CLI and go to the installation path\bin directory.

      NOTE:

In Windows, the default installation path of the eReplication Server is C:\BCManager\Runtime.

    3. Run the shutdownSystem.bat command to stop the eReplication service.
    4. Disable the HTTP protocol.

      1. Go to the installation path\Tomcat6\conf directory.
      2. Open the server.xml file.
      3. Delete the following content from the file:
        <Connector port="80" protocol="HTTP/1.1" connectionTimeout="50000" maxPostSize="30240" redirectPort="9443" URIEncoding="UTF-8" address="192.168.170.10"/>
      4. Save the modification and close the server.xml file.

    5. Go to the installation path\bin directory.
    6. Run the startSystem.bat command to start the eReplication service.
