Adding Storage Devices

Adding Storage Devices

Functions (such as data replication) provided by storage devices are used by eReplication to perform data protection and disaster recovery (DR) jobs. Before creating protected groups, you need to add storage devices.

Prerequisites

The scenarios of adding storage devices are described in the following table.

Protected Object

Description

  • Oracle
  • IBM DB2
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • Microsoft Exchange Server
  • SAP HANA

Adds storage devices associated with databases.

VMware VM

Adds storage devices associated with management VMs.

  • Local file system
  • LUN

Adds associated storage devices.

  • The storage devices to be discovered are running properly.
  • The firewall has been disabled or firewall exceptions have been enabled based on the communication matrix.
  • A site has been created.
  • The storage devices to be added have not been added to any local site.
  • You can connect storage devices to eReplication using MD5 encryption. Note that passwords encrypted based on MD5 may be cracked.
  • You can connect storage devices to eReplication using SHA-256 encryption and fixed salt.

Context

One storage device can be added only to one site on eReplication.

Procedure

  1. On the menu bar, select Resources.
  2. In the navigation tree, select the site where the storage device is to be added.
  3. Click Add Storage Device.

    • Method 1: In the Resource Statistics area, click Add Storage Device.

    • Method 2: In the navigation tree, select Storage. Then click Add Storage Device.

  4. Optional: Select Apply the port, username, and password of the first row to the newly added row.. The system will copy the port number, username, and password of the storage device in the first row to the new row to avoid repeated inputs.
  5. Set parameters for the storage devices to be added as described in Table 5-198.

    • If only one storage device needs to be added, enter the IP address, port number, username, and password of the storage device.
    • If multiple storage devices need to be added, you need to click Add Row to enter the IP addresses, port numbers, usernames, and passwords of multiple storage devices.
Table 5-198  Parameters for adding storage devices

    Parameter

    Description

    Value

    IP Address

Management IPv4 or IPv6 address of the storage device.

    [Example]

    192.168.10.11

    Port

Communication port of the storage device.
    • Default port: default management port configured for the storage device before delivery. The system uses this port to communicate with the storage device.
    • Customized port: management port customized for the storage device. The system uses this port to communicate with the storage device.
    • If Default port is selected, the value is automatically configured by the system.
    • If Customized port is selected, the port number is an integer from 1 to 65,535.

    Username

User name for logging in to the storage device.

It can be obtained from the storage device administrator.
    NOTE:

After the password of a storage device is changed, the eReplication does not continuously access the storage device. You are advised to create a user only for accessing eReplication on the storage device. The user must have administrator rights.

    Password

    Password of the storage device.

It can be obtained from the storage device administrator.

    NOTE:

If an added storage device does not need to be discovered, click Delete to delete it. The default information row cannot be deleted.

  6. Click OK.
  7. Create a resource pool.

A resource pool provides space for temporarily storing data. If you want to use the clone technology to protect objects, use the resource LUNs in the storage pool to establish a clone relationship between storage systems.

    1. In the Resource Pool tab, click Create Resource Pool.
    2. Configure the information about the storage pool. For details about parameters, see Table 5-199.

      Table 5-199  Parameter description

      Parameter

      Description

      Value

      Name

      Name of a resource pool

      [Value range]

      • The name contains 4 to 32 characters.
      • The name contains letters, digits, underscores (_), and hyphens (-), and cannot start with a hyphen (-).

      Function

      Function of a resource pool

      [Example]

      Clone resource pool

      Description

      Description of a resource pool

      [Value range]

The description contains 0 to 255 characters.

      [Example]

      Resource pool

    3. In the Available resource LUNs area, select a LUN. Click to add the selected LUN to the Selected resource LUNs area.

You need to only add the secondary LUNs related to the primary LUNs in the local protection.

    4. In the Selected resource LUNs area, select a LUN for your storage pool.
    5. Click OK.

Related Operations

After storage devices are added, you can refresh, modify, and delete information about storage devices. For details about related operations, see Table 5-200.
Table 5-200  Related operations

Operation

Prerequisite and Result

In the row where the storage device resides, click Refresh on the Operation list.

eReplication automatically refreshes information about added storage devices every 12 hours to ensure the information on eReplication is consistent with the actual information. If storage device information is modified, you need to refresh the information in eReplication immediately.

In the row where the storage device resides, click More > Modify on the Operation list.

Modify the name of the storage device.

In the row where the storage device resides, click More > Delete on the Operation list.

Delete unnecessary storage devices from the site.

In the row where the storage device resides, click More > Device Management on the Operation list.

Go to the device management page. For details about device management, see OceanStor 2000 2000F 5000 5000F 6000 V3 V300R006 Administrator Guide.

In the row where the VIS device resides, click More > VIS Cluster Settings on the Operation list. In the VIS Cluster Settings dialog box that is displayed, modify the configuration of the VIS cluster.

This operation enables two VIS clusters to serve as one mutual backup cluster that provides services together. When one VIS cluster becomes faulty, services are failed over to the other VIS cluster for DR.
