Obtaining the ESN
When you apply for a license, only the ESN generated using OceanStor BCManager eBackup system can ensure that the License file is valid. Any ESN that is generated without using OceanStor eBackup will cause verification failure of the license file that you have obtained. The license file cannot be uploaded to OceanStor BCManager eBackup.
You only need to obtain the ESNs of the backup server and backup proxy that functions as the standby node. The backup manager and backup server of eBackup have independent GUIs. To obtain the ESNs, log in to the backup server GUI.
- Log in to the backup server GUI as user admin.
- Choose Settings > License.
- On the license page, click 'Click here to obtain ESN at first', then obtain ESN dialog will be shown.
- Obtaining an ESN for a single-node system
In the displayed Obtain ESN dialog box, the MAC Address drop-down list shows the MAC addresses of the NICs of backup servers. Choose the MAC address of one or several NICs to generate an ESN.
NOTE:
- If the backup server has multiple NICs, select any MAC address. If the NIC of the selected MAC address is faulty, the license may become invalid.
- You are advised to use an ESN corresponding to multiple MAC addresses of NICs to apply for a license file, reducing the probability of license file invalidity due to NIC faults.
- If a license becomes unavailable after the MAC address of a NIC is changed, rectify the fault by referring to section Changing an ESN.
- Obtaining an ESN for a active and standby two-node system
- If the current system is a two-node one, the method for obtaining ESNs is as follows:

- If the current system is a single-node one and will be configured into a two-node one, you need to obtain ESNs of the active and standby nodes at the same time.
The method for obtaining ESNs of the active node is the same as •Obtaining an ESN for a .... The method for obtaining ESNs of the standby node is as follows:
- Use PuTTY to log in to the backup proxy.
Default account: hcp. Default password: PXU9@ctuNov17!.
- Run the su root command and enter the password of user root to switch to user root.
The default password of user root is Cloud12#$.
- Run the TMOUT=0 command to prevent the system from exiting due to timeout.
NOTE:
After you run this command, the system continues to run when no operation is performed, resulting in a risk. For security, run exit to exit the system.
- Run the cd /opt/huawei-data-protection/ebackup/sbin/ command to go to the directory storing the eBackup script.
- Run the sh generateESN.sh command to obtain the mapping between MAC addresses and ESNs.
- Use PuTTY to log in to the backup proxy.
