Installing a 10GE/25GE Switch

This section describes how to install 10GE switch CE6855-48S6Q-HI and 25GE switch CE6865-48S8CQ-EI or CE6860-48S8CQ-EI into a cabinet. Because the procedures for installing CE6855-48S6Q-HI, CE6865-48S8CQ-EI, and CE6860-48S8CQ-EI are similar, 10GE switch CE6855-48S6Q-HI is used as an example to describe the installation. Installing a 10GE switch into a cabinet is a process for installing mounting ears, connecting a PGND cable to the 10GE switch, sliding the 10GE switch into the cabinet, and installing a pluggable optical module.

Prerequisites

  • The installation environment meets requirements.
  • Guide rails in the cabinet have been installed.
  • All required tools have been prepared, including Phillips screwdrivers, measuring tape, M4 screws, M6 screws, and ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves.

Context

  • 10GE switch CE6855-48S6Q-HI is applicable to a 10GE storage plane for node interconnection and communication.
  • 25GE switch CE6865-48S8CQ-EI is applicable to a 10GE/25GE storage plane for node interconnection and communication.
  • 25GE switch CE6860-48S8CQ-EI is applicable to a 10GE/25GE RoCE storage plane for node interconnection and communication.
  • 10GE switch CE6855-48S6Q-HI provides forty-eight 10GE SFP+ Ethernet optical ports and six 40GE QSFP+ Ethernet optical ports.
  • 25GE switch CE6865-48S8CQ-EI provides forty-eight 10GE/25GE SFP28 Ethernet optical ports and eight 40GE/100GE QSFP28 Ethernet optical ports.

Procedure

  1. Wear an ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves. Ensure that the ESD wrist strap is grounded and in a close contact with your wrist.
  2. Use a measuring tape to measure the distance between the front and rear mounting bars in the cabinet.

  3. Select front mounting ears, rear mounting ears, and rear mounting ear guide rails according to the distance between the front and rear mounting bars.

    Table 8-1 shows the front mounting ears, rear mounting ears, and rear mounting ear guide rails used on a 10GE switch for different distances between the front and rear mounting bars.

  4. Install front mounting ears and rear mounting ears to the switch.

    Install the front mounting ears, rear mounting ears, and rear mounting ear guide rails depending on the distance between the front and rear mounting bars in the cabinet. See Table 8-2.

    NOTE:
    • The front mounting ears, rear mounting ears, and rear mounting ear guide rails must be installed on both sides of the switch. Table 8-2 shows the installation on one side. Install them on the other side in the same way.
    • Use three M4 screws to fix the front or rear mounting ears if they are installed near the port side, and use four M4 screws if the mounting ears are installed near the power supply side. Figures in Table 8-2 show the installation scenarios where front mounting ears are installed near the port side and rear mounting ears are installed near the power supply side. In actual installation, determine whether to install the front mounting ears near the power supply side or port side according to the following rules:
      • To ensure sufficient cabling space, reserve at least 130 mm of vertical distance from the switch's port side to the interior side of the cabinet door.
      • After the installation is complete, the rear mounting ears and rear mounting ear guide rails will not block cables routed from the ports or touch the cabinet door.

  5. Install floating nuts on the mounting bars of the cabinet.

    1. Install four floating nuts on front mounting bars, two on each side. The 10GE switch is 43.6 mm high. Align the holes on the mounting ears with the holes (reserve one hole between the holes) on the mounting bars.
    2. Install four floating nuts on rear mounting bars, two on each side. Align the floating nuts on the rear mounting bars with the floating nuts on the front mounting bars.

    NOTE:

    Keep a 1 U interval between the two floating nuts on a mounting bar according to the scale ticks on the mounting bar.

  6. Install two rear mounting ear guide rails on the mounting bars.

    1. Determine how to install the rear mounting ear guide rails according to Table 8-2. Figure 8-66 shows the installation method when the distance between the front and rear mounting bars is 495 mm to 538 mm.
    2. Align the mounting holes on the rear mounting ear guide rails with the floating nuts on the mounting bars.
    3. Secure the rear mounting ear guide rails to the mounting bars with M6 screws.

  7. Install the switch into the cabinet.

    1. Hold the bottom of the switch with both hands and move the switch into the cabinet. Align the rear mounting ears with the rear mounting ear guide rails and slowly slide the switch along the guide rails.
    2. Use a Phillips screwdriver to secure the front mounting ears on the floating nuts on the mounting bars with M6 screws.

  8. Install a pluggable optical module.

    • Wear an ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves to prevent damaging ESD-sensitive optical modules.
    • Do not reversely insert optical modules. If an optical module cannot be inserted into an optical port, do not force it in. In this case, turn it over and try again.
    • Do not remove dust-proof caps from optical connectors before connecting optical fibers to optical modules.
    1. Take out an optical module from its ESD bag and verify that the optical module is intact.
    2. Insert the optical module into an optical port on the subcard until it snaps into place and then raise the handle to lock it up, as shown in Figure 8-68.

      When the locking reed of the optical module makes a "click" sound, the optical module is installed correctly.
