Checking Cabinets

Checking Cabinets

After installing all hardware, check whether the cabinet is properly installed.

  • Cabinets have been installed.
  • Required tools and materials have been prepared, including:
    • Level
    • Plumb line
    • ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves
    • Multimeter
    • Phillips screwdriver
    • Ladder

  1. Check installation positions of cabinets.

    1. Cabinets are installed to the correct positions as specified by engineering design documents.
    2. Cabinets stand close to each other and are in alignment.
    3. The cabinets of different rows to the main aisle are aligned with a discrepancy less than 5 mm.

  2. Check exteriors of cabinets.

    1. The row and column labels of cabinets are clean and tidy, and attached to marked positions on cabinet doors.
    2. Exteriors of cabinet components are intact and free of paint peeling off, damage, or dirt. Otherwise, repaint and clean them up.
    3. No part of a rack is deformed.
    4. All cable holes on cabinets are sealed.
      • If the cable hole is covered by a small plate, the gap is not larger than the width of the cover plate.
      • If the cable hole is sealed by a bag, the mouth of the bag is tied up.
      • If the cable hole is sealed by a plastic piece, ensure that the outlet hole of the plastic piece is cut to a proper size.
      • The cable hole can also be sealed by eye-pleasant, insulating, and fire-resistant materials.

  3. Check steadiness and insulation of cabinets.

    1. Check levelness of a cabinet using a level. Its horizontal discrepancy is smaller than 3 mm.
    2. Check verticality of a cabinet using a plumb line. Its vertical discrepancy is smaller than 3 mm.
    3. If a cabinet is installed on the ESD floor, insulation parts are installed between racks and the floor, and between trays and guide rails.
    4. All expansion bolts fixing supports or cabinets to the floor are correctly installed and secured. All mounting holes fit expansion bolts properly.
    5. An expansion bolt is installed in the following order: insulating washer, flat washer, spring washer, and bolt.
    6. Other bolts in a cabinet are correctly installed and secured, and all bolt parts are installed in correct order (flat washer before spring washer).
    7. Set a multimeter to read megohm and measure the resistance of expansion bolts and all ground points of a cabinet. The resistance value must be larger than 5 megohms.
    8. If cabinets are combined, connecting plates are installed properly.

  4. Check movable accessories of cabinets.

    1. Side panels, front doors, and rear doors are installed correctly.
    2. Front and rear doors move smoothly. Locks work properly.
    3. All empty slots are covered by filler panels.
    4. The ESD wrist strap is inserted into the ESD jack.

  5. Check the ambient environment.

    1. Redundant cable ties, screws, and foreign articles inside, under, or on top of a cabinet are cleaned up.
    2. Gaps on the floor around a cabinet are blocked to prevent cable ties, screws, and foreign articles from dropping in.
    3. The equipment room is clean and neat. Waste packing cases are moved out and spare parts are stored properly.
