Virtual Network Requirements

Virtual Network Requirements

When VBS is deployed on CVMs, the networking must meet corresponding virtual network requirements.

Table 2-2 describes the virtual network requirements.

Virtualization Environment

Network Requirement

VMware vSphere

  • By default, each ESXi server has a VM port group used by the management network.
  • Create two VM port groups on each ESXi server, one for managing the storage network and the other for the service network. You are advised to isolate the two networks by using virtual local area networks (VLANs).
  • Create one VMkernel port on each ESXi server.
    • This port is used for communication between the iSCSI-Initiator module of the ESXi server and VBS on the CVMs.
    • The VLAN configured for the VMkernel port is the same as that configured for the VM port group of the service network.
  • The bandwidth of the management network must be 1 Gbit/s or higher.
  • The bandwidth of the storage network must be:
    • 6 Gbit/s or higher for TCP/IP networks.
    • 8 Gbit/s or higher for IB or RoCE networks.
  • The service network bandwidth requirements are consistent with those of the storage network.
