IP Address Planning

Management node

Whether to isolate the management network depends on the network security requirements.

  • If high security is not required, do not isolate the management network and provide one management port for access to the management network.
  • If high security is required, isolate the management network, and provide one management port for access to the external management network and one internal management network port for access to the internal management network.
    NOTE:

The external management network is used by users to access DeviceManager and the CLI.

The internal management network is used for management data communication between the management and storage nodes.

The IP addresses of the external and internal management networks must be in different network segment.

The system has two management nodes deployed in active/standby mode (recommended):

  • If the management network is not isolated:
    • Configure one management IP address for DeviceManager to manage the cluster.
    • Configure one management IP address for each management node.
  • If the management network is isolated:
    • Configure one management IP address for DeviceManager to manage the cluster.
    • Configure one management IP address for each management node.
    • Configure one node management IP address for the internal management network.
    • Configure one management IP address for the internal management network on each management node.

The system has only one management node:

  • If the management network is not isolated:

Configure one management IP address for the management node.

  • If the management network is isolated:
    • Configure one management IP address for the management node.
    • Configure one management IP address for the internal management network.

Compute node

Provide one management network port to connect to the management network.

Configure one IP address for the management network.

Provide two ports to create a port bond for access to the storage network.

Configure one IP address for the storage network.

CVM

Provide one virtual network port to connect to the management network.

Configure one virtual IP address for the management network.

Provide one virtual network port to connect to the storage network.

Configure one virtual IP address for the storage network.

Storage node

Provide one management network port to connect to the management network.

Configure one IP address for the management network.

Provide two ports to create a port bond for access to the storage network.

Configure one IP address for the storage network.

BMC/Management switch

Provide one management network port to connect to the management network.

Configure one IP address for the management network.

Storage switch

  • Provide one management network port to connect to the management network.
  • Stack the two storage switches.

Configure one IP address for the management network.

NOTE:

If the two switches are stacked, only one IP address needs to be allocated to the ETH management network ports on the two switches.
