Replacing a DIMM of a TaiShan 2280 V2 12-Slot Node or TaiShan 2280 V2 25-Slot Node

A storage node supports up to 32 DDR4 RDIMMs.

Impact on the System

Before replacing a DIMM on a storage node, you must power off the node. This will adversely affect the services running on the node.

Prerequisites

  • A spare DIMM is ready.
  • The faulty DIMM has been located.

Precautions

  • A DIMM has only one installation direction. If a DIMM cannot be properly seated in a slot, do not exert excess force on the module to avoid damaging the DIMM or slot.
  • The type, capacity, and vendor of the spare DIMM must be the same as those of the faulty DIMM. If the type, capacity, and vendor of the spare DIMM are different from those of the faulty DIMM, you are advised to change all old DIMMs on the node.
  • Before replacing a DIMM, record the system memory capacity for check and comparison after the replacement.
  • A storage node provides 32 DDR4 RDIMM slots. Each CPU supports eight memory channels and each memory channel supports two DIMMs, as shown in Figure 19-11.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the primary management node as user dsware, and run the sh /opt/dsware/client/bin/dswareTool.sh --op setServerStorageMode -ip Management IP address of the faulty node -mode 1 command to switch to the maintenance mode. To run this command, enter the name and password of CLI super administrator account admin as prompted.
  2. Remove the faulty node from its cabinet, and remove its chassis cover. For details, see Basic Operations.
  3. Remove the air duct.

    Lift the air duct according to the signs on the air duct, as shown in Figure 19-12.

  4. Remove the DIMM.

    1. At the same time, open the fixing clips of the DIMM slot, as shown in step 1 in Figure 19-13.

    2. Remove the DIMM from the slot, as shown in step 2 in Figure 19-13.

  5. Place the removed DIMM in a DIMM box.
  6. Take the spare DIMM out of its DIMM box.
  7. Install the DIMM.

    1. Open the two fixing clips on the DIMM slot simultaneously, as shown in Figure 19-14.

    2. Align the DIMM with the DIMM slot, and insert the DIMM into the slot, as shown in Figure 19-15.

  8. Install the air duct.

    Align the positioning pins on the air duct with the fixing holes on the mainboard according to the instructions on the chassis, and vertically place the air duct downwards, as shown in Figure 19-16.

  9. Install the chassis cover, and put the node back into the cabinet. For details, see Basic Operations.
  10. Log in to the primary management node as user dsware, and run the sh /opt/dsware/client/bin/dswareTool.sh --op setServerStorageMode -ip Management IP address of the faulty node -mode 0 command to switch to the normal mode. To run this command, enter the name and password of CLI super administrator account admin as prompted.
  11. Connect the storage node to the power sockets and peripheral devices according to the cable connection labels. Ensure that all cables are correctly connected and then power on the storage node. If the storage node is not powered on, press the power button on the front panel.
  12. Check the installation and clear the BBU cache.

    1. When the screen shown in Figure 19-17 is displayed during the system startup, press Delete.

      NOTE:

      If a dialog box that informs you of entering the password is displayed, enter the BIOS password (default: Admin@9000).

    2. On the BIOS interface that is displayed, check the system memory capacity, as shown in Figure 19-18.

      NOTE:
      • If the system memory capacity equals the actual memory capacity, the installation is successful. In this case, restart the device.
      • If the system memory capacity is less than the actual memory capacity, the installation fails. In this case, remove and reinsert the DIMM.
    3. Choose Advanced > BBU Configuration and then press Enter, as shown in Figure 19-19.

    4. In the displayed BBU Configuration dialog box, select Yes and press Enter, as shown in Figure 19-20.

    5. After the BBU cache is cleared, press F10. In the displayed dialog box, select Yes and press Enter to save the configuration and restart the node, as shown in Figure 19-21.

  13. Check the system status.

    On SmartKit, choose Home > Storage > Routine Maintenance > More > Inspection and check the system status.
    • If all inspection items pass the inspection, the inspection is successful.
    • If some inspection items fail, the inspection fails. Rectify the faults by taking recommended actions in the inspection reports. Perform inspection again after fault rectification. If the inspection still fails, contact Huawei technical support.

Follow-up Procedure

Label the replaced DIMM to facilitate subsequent operations.
