Replacing a Front Disk Backplane of a TaiShan 2280 V2 12-Slot Node, TaiShan 2280 V2 25-Slot Node, or TaiShan 5280 V2 36-Slot Node

Replacing a Front Disk Backplane of a TaiShan 2280 V2 12-Slot Node, TaiShan 2280 V2 25-Slot Node, or TaiShan 5280 V2 36-Slot Node

A disk backplane provides power and data transmission channels for disks.

Impact on the System

Before replacing a disk backplane on a storage node, you must power off the node. This will adversely affect the services running on the node.

Prerequisites

  • A spare disk backplane is ready.

Precautions

None

Tools and Materials

  • Flat-head screwdrivers
  • Phillips screwdrivers
  • ESD gloves
  • ESD wrist straps
  • ESD bags
  • Labels

Procedure

  1. Log in to the primary management node as user dsware, and run the sh /opt/dsware/client/bin/dswareTool.sh --op setServerStorageMode -ip Management IP address of the faulty node -mode 1 command to switch to the maintenance mode. To run this command, enter the name and password of CLI super administrator account admin as prompted.
  2. Remove the faulty node from its cabinet, and remove its chassis cover. For details, see Basic Operations.
  3. Remove the disk module.

Correctly record the slots where disk modules reside. Install disk modules into the same slots before and after the replacement. Otherwise, services may be affected.

    1. Press the button that secures the disk module ejector lever, as shown in step 1 in Figure 5-17.

      The ejector lever automatically ejects.

Figure 5-17 Removing a disk module
    2. Hold the ejector lever, and pull out the disk module for approximately 3 cm, as shown in step 2 in Figure 5-17.
    3. Wait at least 30 seconds until the disk stops spinning, and slowly pull out the disk module, as shown in step 3 in Figure 5-17.

  4. Remove the air duct.

Lift the air duct according to the signs on the air duct, as shown in the following figures.

Figure 5-18 Removing the air duct of a TaiShan 2280 V2 node
Figure 5-19 Removing the air duct of a TaiShan 5280 V2 node

  5. Remove the fan module.

    1. Press the latches on both sides of the fan module to unlock it, as shown in step 1 in the following figures.
      Figure 5-20 Removing a fan module of a TaiShan 2280 V2 node
      Figure 5-21 Removing a fan module of a TaiShan 5280 V2 node
    2. Lift the fan module slowly, as shown in step 2 in the preceding figures.
    3. When the fan module is loose, remove it from the slot.

  6. Remove the fan module bracket.

Press and hold down the latches on both sides of the fan module bracket, and lift the fan module bracket, as shown in steps 1 and 2 in the following figures.

Figure 5-22 Removing a fan module bracket of a TaiShan 2280 V2 node
Figure 5-23 Removing a fan module bracket of a TaiShan 5280 V2 node

  7. Remove the front disk backplane.

    1. Remove all cables from the disk backplane.
    2. Remove the disk backplane.
      • For a TaiShan 2280 V2 node, hold down and open the latches on the disk backplane. Lift the disk backplane as far as it will go, and pull it out in the arrow direction to remove it, as shown in the following figure.
Figure 5-24 Removing the front disk backplane of a TaiShan 2280 V2 node
      • For a TaiShan 5280 V2 node, unscrew the disk backplane. Lift the disk backplane as far as it will go, and pull it out in the arrow direction to remove it, as shown in the following figure.
Figure 5-25 Removing the front disk backplane of a TaiShan 5280 V2 node

  8. Place the removed disk backplane in an ESD bag.
  9. Take the spare disk backplane out of its ESD bag.
  10. Install the front disk backplane.

    • TaiShan 2280 V2 node
      1. Hook the disk backplane, and push it in the arrow direction until the latches are locked and it does not move, as shown in the following figure.
Figure 5-26 Installing the front disk backplane of a TaiShan 2280 V2 node
      2. Connect the cables for the disk backplane.
    • TaiShan 5280 V2 node
      1. Hook the disk backplane, and push it in the arrow direction until the latches are locked and it does not move, as shown in step 1 in the following figure.

      2. Screw the disk backplane, as shown in step 2 in the preceding figure.
      3. Connect the cables for the disk backplane.

  11. Install the fan module bracket.

Put the fan module bracket into the chassis, as shown in the following figures.

Figure 5-28 Installing a fan module bracket of a TaiShan 2280 V2 node
Figure 5-29 Installing a fan module bracket of a TaiShan 5280 V2 node

  12. Install the fan module.

Insert the fan module along the guide rails into the slot until you hear a click. Check that the fan cable connector is securely inserted into the mainboard connector, as shown in the following figures.
    Figure 5-30 Installing a fan module of a TaiShan 2280 V2 node
    Figure 5-31 Installing a fan module of a TaiShan 5280 V2 node

  13. Install the air duct.

Align the positioning pins on the air duct with the fixing holes on the mainboard according to the instructions on the chassis, and vertically place the air duct downwards, as shown in the following figures.

Figure 5-32 Installing the air duct of a TaiShan 2280 V2 node
Figure 5-33 Installing the air duct of a TaiShan 5280 V2 node

  14. Install the disk module.

Install disk modules into the same slots before and after the replacement. Otherwise, services may be affected.

    1. Raise the ejector lever and push the disk module in along the guide rails until it does not move, as shown in step 1 in Figure 5-34.
Figure 5-34 Installing a disk module
    2. Ensure that the ejector lever is fastened to the beam, and lower the ejector lever to completely insert the disk module into the slot, as shown in step 2 in Figure 5-34.

  15. Install the chassis cover, and put the node back into the cabinet. For details, see Basic Operations.
  16. Log in to the primary management node as user dsware, and run the sh /opt/dsware/client/bin/dswareTool.sh --op setServerStorageMode -ip Management IP address of the faulty node -mode 0 command to switch to the normal mode. To run this command, enter the name and password of CLI super administrator account admin as prompted.
  17. Connect the storage node to the power sockets and peripheral devices according to the cable connection labels. Ensure that all cables are correctly connected and then power on the storage node. If the storage node is not powered on, press the power button on the front panel.
  18. Check whether the backplane is successfully replaced.

    • If the disks are powered on properly and the disk indicators are steady on, the backplane is successfully replaced.
    • If the disk indicators are off, the backplane fails to be replaced. Reinstall it or contact Huawei technical support engineers.

  19. Check the system status.

On SmartKit, choose Home > Storage > Routine Maintenance > More > Inspection and check the system status.
    • If all inspection items pass the inspection, the inspection is successful.
    • If some inspection items fail, the inspection fails. Rectify the faults by taking recommended actions in the inspection reports. Perform inspection again after fault rectification. If the inspection still fails, contact Huawei technical support.

For details, see the FusionStorage Block Storage Administrator Guide.
