Replacing a Power Module

Power modules, also known as PSUs, support 1+1 redundancy and are hot-swappable.

Impact on the System

Prerequisites

  • A spare power module is ready.
  • The faulty power module has been located.

Precautions

  • Before replacing a power module, disconnect it from external power supplies. Otherwise, device damage or even personal injury may occur.
  • Remove a faulty power module and insert a spare one within 2 minutes.
  • When installing a power module, do not place fingers over it. Otherwise, your fingers may be hurt.

Tools and Materials

  • ESD gloves
  • ESD wrist straps
  • ESD bags
  • Labels

Procedure

  1. Log in to the primary management node as user dsware, and run the sh /opt/dsware/client/bin/dswareTool.sh --op setServerStorageMode -ip Management IP address of the faulty node -mode 1 command to switch to the maintenance mode. To run this command, enter the name and password of CLI super administrator account admin as prompted.
  2. Optional: Power off the faulty node (perform this step when only one power module is configured).

    Log in to DeviceManager and choose Cluster > Hardware. In the faulty node area, click and select Power Off.
    NOTE:

    If you cannot access the faulty node by DeviceManager, use the KVM to log in to the faulty node as user root, and run the poweroff command to power off the node.

  3. Remove the power module.

    1. Undo the velcro strap binding the power cable, as shown in the following figures.

    2. Remove the power cable from the power module to be replaced, as shown in the following figures.

    3. Press the latch on the power module in the arrow direction, and pull the power module out of the slot by holding the handle, as shown in the following figures.

  4. Place the removed power module in an ESD bag.
  5. Take the spare power module out of its ESD bag.
  6. Install the power module.

    1. Push the spare power module along the guide rails into the slot until the power module clicks into place. The power module latch snaps in so that the power module does not move, as shown in the following figures.

    2. Connect one end of the power cable to the cable port on the power module, as shown in the following figures.

    3. Secure the power cable using a velcro strap, as shown in the following figures.

  7. Log in to the primary management node as user dsware, and run the sh /opt/dsware/client/bin/dswareTool.sh --op setServerStorageMode -ip Management IP address of the faulty node -mode 0 command to switch to the normal mode. To run this command, enter the name and password of CLI super administrator account admin as prompted.
  8. Check whether the power module is successfully installed.

    View the power module indicator to check whether the installation is successful.
    • If the power module indicator is steady green, the installation is successful.
    • If the power module indicator is off, the power module fails to be installed. Reinstall it or contact Huawei technical support engineers.

  9. Check the system status.

    On SmartKit, choose Home > Storage > Routine Maintenance > More > Inspection and check the system status.
    • If all inspection items pass the inspection, the inspection is successful.
    • If some inspection items fail, the inspection fails. Rectify the faults by taking recommended actions in the inspection reports. Perform inspection again after fault rectification. If the inspection still fails, contact Huawei technical support.

Follow-up Procedure

Label the replaced power module to facilitate subsequent operations.
