Replacing a Mainboard of a TaiShan 2280 V2 12-Slot Node or TaiShan 5280 V2 36-Slot Node

This section describes how to replace a mainboard.

Impact on the System

Before replacing a mainboard on a storage node, you must power off the node. This will adversely affect the services running on the node.

Prerequisites

A spare mainboard is ready.

Precautions

Before replacing a mainboard, mark the connections of the cables.

Tools and Materials

  • Flat-head screwdrivers
  • Phillips screwdrivers
  • ESD wrist straps
  • ESD bags
  • Labels

Procedure

  1. Log in to the primary management node as user dsware, and run the sh /opt/dsware/client/bin/dswareTool.sh --op setServerStorageMode -ip Management IP address of the faulty node -mode 1 command to switch to the maintenance mode. To run this command, enter the name and password of CLI super administrator account admin as prompted.
  2. Remove the faulty node from its cabinet, and remove its chassis cover. For details, see Basic Operations.
  3. Loosen the screws that secure the flexible NIC using a Phillips screwdriver, as shown in step 1 in the following figures.

  4. Remove the power modules. For details, see Replacing a Power Module.
  5. Remove the air duct.

    Lift the air duct according to the signs on the air duct, as shown in the following figures.

  6. Remove the fan module.

    1. Press the latches on both sides of the fan module to unlock it, as shown in step 1 in the following figures.

    2. Lift the fan module slowly, as shown in step 2 in the preceding figures.
    3. When the fan module is loose, remove it from the slot.

  7. Remove the fan module bracket.

    Press and hold down the latches on both sides of the fan module bracket, and lift the fan module bracket, as shown in steps 1 and 2 in the following figures.

  8. Remove the DIMM.

    1. At the same time, open the fixing clips of the DIMM slot, as shown in step 1 in Figure 24-55.

    2. Remove the DIMM from the slot, as shown in step 2 in Figure 24-55.

  9. Remove the riser card tray and riser card.

    1. Lift the riser card tray, as shown in the following figures.

    2. Rotate the PCIe card latch to open it, as shown in step 1 in the following figure.

    3. Pull out the PCIe card, as shown in step 2 in the preceding figure.

  10. Remove the 2 x 2.5-inch rear disk assembly.

    1. Remove all cables from the rear disk assembly.
    2. Unscrew the rear disk assembly and vertically lift it, as shown in the following figures.

  11. Remove the 4 x 2.5-inch rear disk assembly.

    1. Remove all cables from the rear disk assembly.
    2. Unscrew the rear disk assembly, as shown in step 1 in the following figures.

    3. Take out the rear disk assembly, as shown in step 2 in the preceding figures.

  12. Remove the cable guide.

    Loosen the screws that secure the cable guide using a Phillips screwdriver, and lift the cable guide, as shown in the following figures.

  13. Remove the mainboard.

    1. Remove all cables from the mainboard.

      You must remove all cables from the mainboard. The cables include those connected to the disk backplane and the left and right mounting ear plates.

    2. Loosen the screws on the mainboard using a Phillips screwdriver, as shown in step 1 in the following figures.

    3. Push the mainboard in the arrow direction as far as it will go by holding its handle in the red circle, as shown in step 2 in the preceding figures.

      Do not hold any other protruding part of the mainboard to lift it. Otherwise, the parts on the mainboard may be damaged.

    4. Raise the mainboard 10° to 15° in the arrow direction by holding the mainboard handle, as shown in step 1 in the following figures.

    5. Lift the mainboard, as shown in step 2 in the preceding figures.
    6. Place the removed mainboard in an ESD bag.

  14. Install the mainboard.

    1. Take the spare mainboard out of its ESD bag.
    2. Hold the mainboard handle in the red circle, raise the mainboard by 10° to 15° in the arrow direction, and place it in the chassis, as shown in the following figures.

    3. Push the mainboard in the arrow direction as far as it will go, as shown in step 1 in the following figures.

      NOTE:

      To burn the original ESN into the new mainboard after replacement, contact Huawei technical support.

    4. Tighten the screws on the mainboard using the Phillips screwdriver, as shown in step 2 in the preceding figures.
    5. Connect all cables to the mainboard.

  15. Install the cable guide.

    Install the cable guide on the mainboard, and tighten the screws using a Phillips screwdriver to secure the cable guide, as shown in the following figures.

  16. Install the 4 x 2.5-inch rear disk assembly.

    1. Install the rear disk assembly in the chassis and tighten the screws, as shown in steps 1 and 2 in the following figures.

    2. Connect the cables for the rear disk assembly.

  17. Install the 2 x 2.5-inch rear disk assembly.

    1. Install the rear disk assembly in the chassis and screw the assembly, as shown in the following figures.

    2. Connect the cables for the rear disk assembly.

  18. Install the riser card tray and riser card.

    1. Insert the PCIe card into the PCIe slot, as shown in step 1 in Figure 24-79.

    2. Close the latch on the PCIe slot, as shown in step 2 in Figure 24-79.
    3. Install the riser card tray, as shown in the following figures.

  19. Install the DIMM.

    1. Open the two fixing clips on the DIMM slot simultaneously, as shown in Figure 24-82.

    2. Align the DIMM with the DIMM slot, and insert the DIMM into the slot, as shown in Figure 24-83.

      The two fixing clips close automatically.

  20. Install the fan module bracket.

    Put the fan module bracket into the chassis, as shown in the following figures.

  21. Install the fan module.

    Insert the fan module along the guide rails into the slot until you hear a click. Check that the fan cable connector is securely inserted into the mainboard connector, as shown in the following figures.

  22. Install the air duct.

    Align the positioning pins on the air duct with the fixing holes on the mainboard according to the instructions on the chassis, and vertically place the air duct downwards, as shown in the following figures.

  23. Install the power modules. For details, see Replacing a Power Module.
  24. Install the flexible NIC.

    1. Align the flexible NIC with the rear guide rails in the chassis, and push the flexible NIC in the arrow direction as far as it will go, as shown in step 1 in the following figures. Ensure that the installation plane of the captive screws is in contact with the rear panel.

    2. Tighten the screws using a Phillips screwdriver to secure the flexible NIC, as shown in step 2 in the preceding figures.

  25. Install the chassis cover, and put the node back into the cabinet. For details, see Basic Operations.
  26. Log in to the primary management node as user dsware, and run the sh /opt/dsware/client/bin/dswareTool.sh --op setServerStorageMode -ip Management IP address of the faulty node -mode 0 command to switch to the normal mode. To run this command, enter the name and password of CLI super administrator account admin as prompted.
  27. Connect the storage node to the power sockets and peripheral devices according to the cable connection labels. Ensure that all cables are correctly connected and then power on the storage node. If the storage node is not powered on, press the power button on the front panel.
  28. Replacing the faulty mainboard also replaces the NIC integrated on it. You need to reconfigure the NIC on the new mainboard. For details, see the FusionStorage Block Storage Software Installation Guide.
  29. Check the system status.

    On SmartKit, choose Home > Storage > Routine Maintenance > More > Inspection and check the system status.
    • If all inspection items pass the inspection, the inspection is successful.
    • If some inspection items fail, the inspection fails. Rectify the faults by taking recommended actions in the inspection reports. Perform inspection again after fault rectification. If the inspection still fails, contact Huawei technical support.

Follow-up Procedure

Label the replaced mainboard to facilitate subsequent operations.
