About Real-Time Performance Monitoring
Real-time monitoring is to obtain live performance data of a device from SystemReporter. Then the collected performance statistics are displayed and analyzed to monitor the operating status of the device.
Function Introduction
By using the real-time monitoring function, users can understand the real-time running status of storage devices. Users can also view performance graphics of some objects within the latest one hour. Based on device running status, users can set monitoring frequencies. The collection frequency of performance data is inversely proportional to the real-time monitoring frequency value.
For example, if the monitoring frequency value for the average controller I/O response time is five seconds, performance data about the average controller I/O response time is generated every five seconds.
Data Statistical Method
Statistical method of monitoring data: Performance indicator monitoring statistics/Statistical period.
Since the statistical periods of real-time and historical monitoring are different, the real-time monitoring data may be inconsistent with the historical monitoring data.
Objects, Performance Indicators and Indicator Views
- Object type: All types of objects that can be monitored on the current registered device are displayed on the navigation bar on the left.
- Performance indicator item: After a template is selected, the system only displays indicators of resource types supported by the template. Those indicators that are not supported by the template are not displayed. If a resource does not support any indicator in a template, Those indicators are filtered out and not displayed.
- Indicator view: When the interval between two data collection points is triple (or more) that of the previous interval in the monitoring curve, the curve is disconnected. Monitor the status of new data collection points dynamically generated in real time. If the interval between a new data collection point and the previous one is equal to or greater than triple the value of the collection period, the curve is disconnected. When the interval between two data collection points is smaller than 15s, the curve keeps running. Data size of capacity specifications is 1min. Since data of Synchronization Duration (s) and Time difference (s) is generated irregularly, the curve is still connected.
Precautions
- The real-time monitoring data during the storage array upgrade is unavailable.
- After a monitored object is deleted or SystemReporter stops monitoring the object, SystemReporter still retains the monitoring data of the object. You need to restart SystemReporter or the monitoring service to clear the monitoring data of the object.
- After real-time monitoring options are configured in SystemReporter, SystemReporter automatically saves the configuration. After SystemReporter is started next time, the monitoring view based on the configuration is displayed in the function pane.
- If SystemReporter is performing real-time monitoring, the screen is not automatically locked even if no operation is performed. You are advised to exit the monitoring page if you do not want to use SystemReporter any longer to ensure system security.
- If you add or reduce objects when viewing performance monitoring data on SystemReporter, the real-time performance data curves will not be converged at the time when objects are added or reduced.
