Restoring Default BIOS Settings

Restore default BIOS settings by using either of the following:
The BIOS parameters are restored to default values of the current BIOS version. If you need special BIOS parameter settings, you can modify the values.
- Restore the default settings on the BIOS
If you restore the default settings on the BIOS, the following information is not restored:
- Date and time information on the Main page
- BIOS startup logo
- All parameters (except watchdog parameters) under IPMI iBMC Configuration on the Advanced tab page
- Password parameters on the Security tab page
- Restore the default settings using the iBMC CLIPrepare the following data and software tools in advance:
- IP address of the iBMC on the server to be restored.
- User name and password of the iBMC on the server to be restored
- PuTTY.exe: This tool is third-party software. You need to prepare it by yourself.
Procedure
- Restore the default settings on the BIOS
- Access the BIOS. For details, see Accessing the BIOS.
- Press ← or → to switch to the Exit tab, as shown in Figure 3-28.
- Select Load Defaults and press Enter.
The system displays the "Are you sure load defaults?" dialog box.
- Select Yes and press Enter.
- Press F10.
The system displays the "Save configuration changes and exit?" dialog box.
- Select Yes and press Enter.
The server automatically restarts for the settings to take effect.
- Restore the default settings using the iBMC CLI
- Connect the local PC to the management network port of the server using a network cable.
- Set the IP address and subnet mask of the PC so that the client can access the IP address of the iBMC management port.
- Double-click PuTTY.exe.
The PuTTY Configuration window is displayed, as shown in Figure 3-29.
In addition to PuTTY, Xshell can also be used to perform this operation.
- Set the login parameters.
Set parameters as follows:
- Host Name (or IP address): Enter the iBMC IP address, for example, 192.168.1.102.
- Port: 22 by default
- Connection type: SSH by default
- Close window on exit: Only on clean exit by default
Configure Host Name and Saved Sessions, and click Save. You can double-click the saved record in Saved Sessions to log in to the server next time.
- Click Open.
The PuTTY screen is displayed. Then the message "login as:" is displayed, prompting you to enter a user name.
- If you log in to the server the first time, the PuTTY Security Alert window is displayed. You can click Yes, which indicates that you trust this site, to enter the PuTTY operation screen.
- If an incorrect user name or password is entered, you must set up a new PuTTY session.
- Enter the user name and password.
- Run the following command to restore the BIOS factory settings:
ipmcset -d clearcmos
The following information is displayed:
WARING:The operation may have many adverse effects Do you want to continue?[Y/N]:
- Type y and press Enter.
If the following information is displayed, the BIOS factory settings are successfully restored.
Clear CMOS successfully.
- Restart the BIOS for the settings to take effect.
