Multicast Feature Support of S Series Switches

Introduction

This chapter describes the support of S series switches for common Layer 2 multicast features. For more information about IP multicast feature support and how to configure these features, see the Huawei S Series Switches Configuration Guide - IP Multicast.

IGMP Snooping Feature Support of S Series Switches

Common Layer 2 multicast features include IGMP snooping features and multicast VLAN. The following table lists the Layer 2 multicast features supported by S series switches.

  • When the version of IGMP messages that IGMP snooping can process is set to IGMPv3:
    • The default Layer 2 multicast forwarding mode of the switch cannot be changed.
    • The following switch models forward multicast data by looking up the forwarding table according to the VLAN ID and group address: S2700SI, S2710SI, S2720EI, S2750EI, S3700SI, S5700LI, S5700S-LI, S5700-C-LI, S5700-X-LI, S5720LI, S5720S-LI, S5700SI, S6720LI, S6720S-LI, S5720SI, S5720I-SI, S5720S-SI, S5730SI, S5730S-EI, S6720SI, S6720S-SI
  • On a switch, except those using MAC address-based forwarding as the default Layer 2 multicast forwarding mode, a VLAN cannot be configured as a multicast VLAN after the multicast data forwarding mode in the VLAN is set to MAC address-based forwarding using the l2-multicast forwarding-mode command.
