Upgrading an LTE Modem

Context

When the device uses the 3G, LTE, or 5G card and the modem firmware version is earlier than the latest version, the 3G, LTE, or 5G link may be abnormal and services may be affected. When such a fault occurs, you are advised to upgrade the modem firmware.

After the modem firmware is upgraded, only the modem restarts. Exercise caution when performing this operation.

The following procedure uses the LTE Modem EC25 as an example.

Procedure

Check the current versions of the device and modem.

Run the display device command in any view to check the slot and board information.

If the version in the Modem Firmware Version field is earlier than that listed in Table 12-4, go to the next step.

Obtain the latest software and upload it to the device.

Log in to https://support.huawei.com/enterprise, choose Technical Support > Software Download > Routers > Access Routers to access the AR600&6100&6200&6300 series, select the required version (for example, ), and check whether there is the latest patch for the AR600&6100&6200&6300 series. If the patch is available, download the latest modem version listed in Table 12-4 to the PC.

If the patch is not available, contact technical support to obtain the modem software package.

Upload the software package to the device.

Run the ftp command in the user view of the device to log in to the server (PC).

In the FTP view, run the dir command to check the ZIP package on the PC, run the get command to download the latest software package from the PC to the root directory of the flash memory on the device, and then run the dir command to check whether the software package is successfully downloaded to the device.

Upgrade the modem.
To upgrade the firmware of the LTE modem, run the module-upgrade [ transport-dcm ] slot slot-id module module-id directory command in the diagnostic view.

To upgrade the modem on an interface card, run the module-upgrade transport-dcm slot slot-id module module-id directory command. The upgrade file name of an interface card is the complete upgrade file name (with the file name extension .zip) without flash:/.

To upgrade the modem on an LTE-capable device, run the module-upgrade slot slot-id module module-id directory command. The upgrade file name of an SRU contains flash:/ and the complete upgrade file name (with the file name extension .zip).

The value of slot-id can be obtained from the Slot field in the display device command output. The value of module-id is fixed at 0.

Check whether the modem firmware is upgraded successfully.

Run the display Cellular hardware command in any view to check the Modem Firmware Version field to determine whether the modem is upgraded successfully.
