Licensing Requirements and Limitations for 3G Cellular Interfaces
Involved Network Elements
None.
Licensing Requirements
3G cellular interfaces are a basic capability of an AR router and are not under license control.
Hardware Requirements
This section is applicable to all models. For details about differences for specific models, see the description in the corresponding section.
Feature Limitations
The device equipped with the 3G interface card provides 3G cellular interfaces, and 3G models have 3G cellular interfaces. The 3G interface card, and 3G model have built-in 3G modem. A 3G cellular interface manages a 3G modem. The 3G cellular interface uses a 3G modem for wireless data transmission at the physical layer, PPP or Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) at the data link layer, and IP at the network layer.
You are advised not to use the 3G data cards to ensure compatibility.
- 3G cellular interfaces can be used only when 3G-capable hardware (3G interface card/3G model) is installed on the device and the SIM/UIM/USIM card are installed on the 3G-capable hardware.
- Multiple 3G cellular interfaces on a device cannot be used for Multilink Point to Point Protocol (MP) binding to increase bandwidth.
- In a 3G dual uplink scenario, it is recommended that the two 3G cellular interfaces be used as the primary and backup interfaces respectively. Load balancing is not recommended for traffic distribution on the interfaces because load balancing may affect service transmission.
- The device supports double-card single-standby. If only one SIM card needs to be installed, install it in slot SIM1.
3G Interface Card
A 3G interface card is installed into the SIC slot on the device. Table 11-1 describes the 3G interface cards supported by the device.

3G Model
A 3G model is a device that has 3G antenna interfaces and generally contains G in its name.
