Configuring IGMP Proxy
Context
In a simple tree topology, multicast devices directly connected to receiver hosts do not need to run complicated multicast routing protocols, such as PIM. To conserve network bandwidth and reduce loads on the upstream devices, you can configure IGMP proxy on the multicast devices. Then the multicast devices work as proxy devices between the upstream devices and downstream hosts and substitute for them to transmit IGMP messages.
