Determining Installation Positions
To ensure efficient installation of controller enclosures and disk enclosures, first determine where they are to be installed in the cabinet.
Prerequisites
The following installation tools and materials are ready:
- 2 U installation template (available in the accessory box)
- Marker
Context
- To facilitate the operation and maintenance of a controller enclosure, you are advised to install a controller enclosure between the 19th U and the 21st U in a cabinet. This section uses the recommended installation positions in a 42 U cabinet as an example. You can plan device installation positions based on site requirements.
- Below a controller enclosure, reserve a 2 U space for installing a cable tray to facilitate the removal and insertion of interface modules.
- You are advised to keep a 1 U (44.45 mm) space between storage devices. If the space is limited, form groups of five disk enclosures, and reserve at least a 1 U space between groups within the same cabinet to facilitate management and mitigate vibration transfer.
- You are advised to reserve a 2 U space at the bottom of the cabinet to facilitate cabling, ventilation, heat dissipation, and maintenance of the devices located in the lower part of the cabinet.
You are advised to install disk enclosures from the bottom up in descending order of weight.
Procedure
- Locate the installation positions of the controller and disk enclosures in a cabinet according to Layout Planning.
Each three square holes correspond to 1 U height. Each 1 U height is lined out with a scale mark. If no 1 U scale mark is lined out on the front and rear columns of the cabinet, line out scale marks to facilitate locating installation positions.
- Align the bottom of an installation template with the integer U scale mark on the mounting bars of the cabinet, as shown in Figure 5-17.
- Use a marker to mark the positions of the screw holes where the devices will be fastened on the mounting bars. The installation positions of the controller enclosure and disk enclosures are determined.
