(Optional) Installing Interface Modules
Install interface modules in a controller enclosure before installing the controller enclosure. If interface modules have been installed, skip this procedure.
If the operation space is limited, you can use a fiber extractor to remove and insert LC optical fibers, pluggable optical modules, and unshielded network cables. For details, see Replacing an Optical Fiber, Optical Module, and Network Cable Using a Fiber Extractor.
Prerequisites
The following installation tools and materials are ready:
- ESD gloves
- ESD clothes
- ESD wrist strap

2 |
Used to connect two controller enclosures. Each module has two 25GE optical ports. |
Rules for allocating interface modules:
- Figure 5-38 shows the 2 U controller enclosure of the Dorado 3000 V6. Controllers A and B provide three interface module slots respectively.
Controllers are numbered A and B from top to bottom. From left to right, the slot IDs of interface modules on controller A and controller B are IOM 0, IOM 1, and IOM 2. If the storage device requires IP scale-out, the scale-out interface module must be installed in slot IOM 1.
- The recommended slot sequence for installing front-end interface modules to connect application servers is as follows: IOM 0 > IOM 1 > IOM 2.
- A 12 Gbit/s SAS interface module can be installed only in slot IOM 2.
- If the storage device requires IP scale-out, the scale-out interface module must be installed in slot IOM 1.
- Figure 5-39 shows the 2 U controller enclosure of the Dorado 5000/6000 V6. Controllers A and B provide six interface module slots respectively.
Controllers are numbered A and B from top to bottom. From left to right, the slot IDs of interface modules on controller A and controller B are IOM 0, IOM 1, IOM 2, IOM 3, IOM 4, and IOM 5. If the storage device requires IP scale-out, the scale-out interface module must be installed in slot IOM 2.
- The recommended slot sequence for installing front-end interface modules to connect application servers is as follows: IOM 0 > IOM 1 > IOM 2 > IOM 3 > IOM 4 > IOM 5.
- A 2 U controller enclosure of Dorado 5000/6000 V6 provides either 12 Gbit/s SAS or 100 Gbit/s RDMA onboard expansion ports for connection to disk enclosures, depending on the actual configuration.
- When the controller enclosure provides 12 Gbit/s SAS onboard expansion ports, the recommended slot sequence for installing a 100 Gbit/s RDMA interface module is as follows: IOM 5 > IOM 4 > IOM 3 > IOM 2 > IOM 1 > IOM 0; the recommended slot sequence for installing a 12 Gbit/s SAS interface module is as follows: IOM 5 > IOM 4 > IOM 3.
- When the controller enclosure provides 100 Gbit/s RDMA onboard expansion ports, the recommended slot sequence for installing the 100 Gbit/s RDMA interface module is as follows: IOM 5 > IOM 4 > IOM 3 > IOM 2 > IOM 1 > IOM 0. A 12 Gbit/s SAS interface module cannot be installed in any one slot between IOM 5 and IOM 0.
- If the storage device requires IP scale-out, the scale-out interface module must be installed in slot IOM 2.
- Interface modules of the same type must be installed in sequence.
- Install the interface modules used for iSCSI networking before the interface modules used for Fibre Channel networking.
- If there are vacant slots after all interface modules have been installed, install filler panels into the vacant slots.
Procedure
- Wear an ESD wrist strap, ESD gloves, and ESD clothes.
- Take an interface module out of its ESD bag.
- Insert the interface module into a vacant slot.
The procedure for installing interface modules is the same for the two types of 2 U controller enclosures. The following uses the 2 U controller enclosure of Dorado 3000 V6 as an example.
