Layout Planning
Before installing a storage system, work out an appropriate device layout plan to ensure that the storage system operates properly.
Layout Principles
Table 2-4 describes the layout principles for the devices.
Item |
Principle |
---|---|
Plan the location of a cabinet. |
Leave at least 1200 mm between two rows of cabinets and 1000 mm between a wall and the nearest cabinet. |
Use 15 m SAS cables or 10 m RDMA cables to connect cabinets. |
|
Plan the locations of storage devices in a cabinet. |
The load bearing capacity of guide rails in a cabinet is larger than 50 kg. |
Install the controller enclosure in the middle of a cabinet (19 U to 20 U for a 2 U controller enclosure), and reserve 2 U space above the controller enclosure for fiber spools located at the left and right sides of the cabinet. |
|
The layout of devices in a cabinet meets the requirements of cabinet power supply and equipment room heat dissipation (by air conditioners). |
|
Install disk enclosures from the bottom up in descending order of weight. |
|
If the cabinet has sufficient space, it is advised to keep a 1 U (44.45 mm) space between storage devices and reserve 2 U space at the bottom of a cabinet to facilitate cable routing, heat dissipation, and device maintenance in the lower part of the cabinet. |
- If the cabinet space is insufficient for placing storage devices at intervals, the device temperature will be 8°C to 10°C higher than that when storage devices are placed at intervals of 1 U. In this case, the temperatures at the air exhaust vent and on the exterior of the devices still meet the EN 60950 and UL 60950 standards.
- To lower the device temperature, run the change smartcooling_mode mode=? temperature=? command in developer mode to change the fan speed adjustment mode to manual_mode and set the temperature (value range: 45–66). For details on how to use this command, see the Advanced O&M Command Reference specific to your product model.
Based on Table 2-4, Figure 2-7 shows the typical layout of a 2 U controller enclosure in a 42 U cabinet.
The actual configuration and installation solutions vary depending on the number of components, cabinet types, and disk specifications. You can also install devices in other locations in the cabinet as needed.
