(Optional) Installing Palm-sized NVMe SSDs
If NVMe SSDs have not been installed into the storage devices, install the NVMe SSDs before installing the storage devices. If NVMe SSDs have been installed, skip this procedure.
Prerequisites
The following installation tools are ready:
- ESD wrist strap
- ESD clothes
- ESD gloves
Precautions
A storage system only supports NVMe SSDs that match the system model. NVMe SSDs that do not match the storage system or are not certified by Huawei cannot be used.
Procedure
- Wear an ESD wrist strap, ESD gloves, and ESD clothes.
- Take the NVMe SSD to be installed out of the ESD bag.
Before inserting an NVMe SSD, fully open its handle. Otherwise, the NVMe SSD cannot be fully inserted into a slot.
- Insert the NVMe SSD into an empty slot and close the handle after the NVMe SSD clicks into place, as shown in Figure 5-36.
Install NVMe SSDs in sequence of the slot numbers. Disk slots of a storage device are numbered 0 to 35 from left to right, as shown in Figure 5-35.
Insert the disk module into the slot by pushing the middle area of the disk module (as shown in arrow 1 in Figure 5-36) to ensure that the disk module is properly inserted into its position.
Follow-up Procedure
If there are vacant disk slots after all NVMe SSDs have been installed, install filler panels into the vacant slots for proper heat dissipation. The method of installing a filler panel is the same as that of installing an NVMe SSD.
